Church's ex-members reveal years of ungodly abuse

The Word of Faith Fellowship in Spindale, NC, has been on the radar of cult watchers for years. Led with an iron fist by pastor Jane Whaley, this abusive church is a cult both theologically and sociologically.

The Associated Press has just issued part one of a two-part investigative report on the church:

The attitudes of Western European states towards new religious movements

The ‘cult wars’ of the 1980s and 1990’s have largely abated, but those who fight for the right of “New Religious Movements” seemingly continue to worry more about such groups than about the impact “cultic deviations” have on victims of cults ands sects.

A brief look at an overview and comments by religious historian Jean-François Mayer, the founder and chief editor of Religioscope.

Idaho Lawmaker Says His 'Faith-Healing' Exemption Law is Ready to Go

Idaho's child injury law says parents who choose to treat their sick children "by prayer or spiritual means alone" will not be construed to have violated their parental duties. John Gannon's bill would add the line "unless such practice creates an imminent risk of permanent physical harm or death," language that he said was recommended by the state Attorney General's office.

"We're keeping the exemption," Gannon said. "We're just modifying it in order
to prevent child deaths."

Many people have for years called for such a change in the law, particularly due to the high number of unnecessary child death among members of the Followers of Christ church. The latter is theologically a cult of Christianity whose teachings on, among other things, faith healing contradict those of the Bible:

Human rights, literacy, anti-drug education...

These are some of the worthwhile causes critics say have been hijacked by front groups of the 'church' of Scientology for both PR and recruitment purposes.

Islam, Aum Shinrikyo, Abusive Churches

There are three kinds of Muslims, former Muslim Ayaan Hirsi Ali says, and moderates are not among them. The outspoken Islam critic calls for a reformation within Islam.

Also: Former members of a church in Palmerston, New Zealand, say they were suicidal, depressed and in need of counselling after leaving the “cult-like” church and being shunned by their friends and family.

The church is affiliated with a church in Arizona which former members says is 'cult-like.'

And groups that have succeeded the Aum Shinrikyo doomsday cult are still under the strong influence of guru Shoko Asahara, who is on death row.
