I needn't have worried, the bar was exactly as I saw it years before and so was the dining room. #HotelBaudy #Giverny

This was Monet's bar in Giverny, it was pure luck the older ladies arrived in perfect tune with the atmosphere. I went back again this year, wondering if things had changed....

#hull2017
Hull is getting ready for 2017 the city has been designated City of Culture 2017, there will be huge media interest in the town and a lot of investment. It's also got a new International Photography Gallery - HIP, my Barlife work will be showing there this November - December.
It's a town that's been isolated, and often in the shadows, but always friendly to visitors.
Here's a few tips on how to behave if you are visiting for the first time.

#HouseholdCavalry
The Household Cavalry at Bodney Camp this July. At the end of their demonstration of horsemanship they exit the arena at full gallop screaming. It will make the hairs on the back of your neck go up.
I wanted to use Pritouritze Planinata singing Chant from the Thracian Plain (check it out) for the soundtrack for the slideshow, because I think it goes so well with this ancient form of combat. If anyone can suggest an evocative alternative that's royalty free, please let me know.

So there you have it, booze one side and companionable isolation on the other. Something of #Edward_Hopper here I think. Taken in London.

This is the entrance to the fabulous  cafe #A_Brasileira in Lisbon.
The guy at the front of house looks like he's struggling with the daily grind of earning a living, while just feet away there's drink, food, conversation and enough atmosphere to knock your eye out.

Sometimes you get it right, other times you get it wrong.
I thought I got away with taking his photograph without him noticing.
But he turned and saw me.
He inhaled, so the tip of his cigar glowed.
He looked like a #fighter .
Time to go forward and explain yourself.
But in terrible Spanish?
But he was fine, and demanded I join him in a drink.
The Spanish like most of us would prefer to drink together, rather than fight.

Milano Bar. Wonderful place to spend the time watching people. This was the end of the day, he may be gathering his thoughts, but the service was still immaculate.
