Wallpaper is weird.

BUT, It has the potential to add fabulous texture and color to a room, almost as though it is the artwork and the element that captivates the viewer. Yet, so many people are stuck in their old concept of wallpaper, probably because they grew up with it on their kitchen walls, or in their bedroom or living room. And all it did was resonate sixties, seventies, or even FIFTIES decor which always had a bit of putrid coloring to it.

Now of course, the style is back. Featured in Vogue, and I personally love it. We all know not all wallpapers are equal. And in fact, wallpaper can be completely exquisite, people just have to give it a chance.

With that being said, it can become quite expensive. I really like to use wallpaper on accent walls, they prove to be unexpected but purposeful and show the right intention in the space.
It could be on the ceiling in the powder room, or on a unassuming wall in the living room that pulls all of the colors and hues creating that conversation, and symphony of fabulousness!

Here's the steps to make it work:

1. Give wallpaper a try, open up your mind to the thought of it and see how it can transform your home. It can blow your socks off as modern wallpaper is elegant and complex at the same time. It must be, then it can be used tastefully to persuade the design scheme.

2. Wallpaper price point can be all over the board. Be prepared to pay a good amount for quality elegant paper, and consider it an investment for 7-10 years, a worthwhile one. That's when most people get tired of their design concept.

Don't just go online and look at wallpaper and order it. Order samples. It always looks different in your home. Remember the concept of metamerism. The lighting and the nuances of your space affect the look and feel of any color. Whether it be fabric, wall-covering, or straight paint. The lighting in every environment is different and and it plays a huge role in the look and feel of your home, but more on that later.

Shades of Moody Gray:

With an overcast day like today and a cool breeze, I think about Chicago's sometimes bleak weather and its many shades of Gray. It seems as though that has become the contagious color palette for all homeowners.

Various shades of Grey painted on walls, and even ceilings create a modern, calm design look. Yet with such a simple yet sophisticated design direction, many clients are flabbergasted & overwhelmed by the nuances of all the gray hughes. Like all colors, there are undertones that play a huge role in how you combine colors and how colors reflect the light that is seen by the human eye. With the right color, you can create a great space.

I had an outrageously successful design meeting with my client yesterday. After a few hours of searching for wallpaper and fabrics for pillows and the sofa, I presented her with an array of options that would tantalize anybody's senses. She had something else completely in mind, and wouldn't let go of her stale design ideas until I showed her what was possible with new design elements!

Over the course of two hours I facilitated and witnessed an incredible transformation not only in our design plan and layout of her city condo, but of her vision of what was possible in her own space. THAT IS MY JOB! To break through my clients limited ceiling of creativity in order to create their personal space beyond what they even thought.

This helps ignite their spirit and soul. She was ecstatic!! Now just wait for the before and after photos!! To be continued..

"Why do two colors, put one next to the other, sing? Can one really explain this? No." - Pablo Picasso.

Every human reacts differently to color, both from emotional and biological factors. Since no two people react to color the same way, every design experience is incredibly unique.

I'd love to tell you more about how the color of paint you select effects how you feel in your home.

I’m super excited about this project I just finished and I wanted to share it with you. It is always such a privilege to work in client homes to recreate their living environment. These before and after photos are a fun look into the creative journey! I took this home from DULL to DASHING without any demolition!

When I was hired to decorate my first holiday home in Lincolnwood 10 years ago I never imagined that I would still be decorating for them AND painting the interior of their home & in the SAME month (different crews). It's a wonderful combination of business success and client trust. Just taking a moment to be grateful.
