A mesmerizing simulation of galaxy formation after the Big Bang. Simulations are an important tool in Science. They all us to put our ideas to the test. They're particularly helpful when we're talking about events that require all the time in the universe, like galaxy formation, since it would be rather hard to watch the whole thing ourselves.

Just because the name is French doesn't mean anything else is.

Our solar system is about 5 billion years old. This planetary system is almost 13 billion years old. The universe itself is only a little older than that. And it's practically in our backyard. Which is even weirder since it's actually here from a different galaxy.

A G2 geomagnetic storm is currently underway, as a large solar flare (coronal mass ejection) heads our way. The bulk of the mass is forecast to impact Earth's magnetosphere tonight around midnight EST, reaching a class of G3.

What's it all mean? If you leave near NYC, Boston, Chicago, Seattle, and possibly even Washington D.C., look up tonight! You just might see the Aurora Borealis!

Live in the Southern Hemisphere? Unless you live near Christchurch, NZ, you're probably out of luck. The Aurora Australis (that's the name of aurora at the South Pole - "australis" being latin for "southern") is just as real, and just as awesome. What's the problem, then? There just isn't much land south of 50 degrees geomagnetic south.

There are much better, safer, and more effective ways to protect intellectual property. Sign the petition. Tell your Senators and House Rep to vote NO.
