Big thanks to everyone who came out for the Dr Wyatt Tee Walker event at The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club today. Our panel had great conversation that was definitely an inspiration to the youth and adults in attendance!

October 25, 2015

I was home for a visit in Richmond, Virginia the week of October 18 - 23, 2015. I paid an unexpected visit to the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club in Churchill. It was an honor and a privilege to share my experiences as a member of the club during my youth. At one time, I began the youngest Boy of the Year recipient (1967) at the age of 14. Under the tutelage of Mr. James Bryant, I made countless speeches on behalf of the club encourages others to donate to the building of the club at its current location on R Street. When the club was built, I was too old to attend but did enjoy seeing others reaping the benefits I had been afforded during my time of a member of the club. Thank you Red Shield, Salvation Army administration and all the other countless individuals for the impact you had and still having on my life. God Bless each of you.

Happy Friday! In December, Chad Coleman (former Boys & Girls Club member and actor in The Wire and The Walking Dead) came back to Church Hill with #BLX a mini-docuseries available on and visited his old block and The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club. Enjoy!

#BLX goes home with Chad L. Coleman, star of The Walking Dead and The Wire. Hard hit by the crack epidemic of the ‘80s, his block was faced with much tumult. Here’s a look at his block today and a snapshot into the experiences that made the star.
