I ran across this inspiring letter, which was written over 50 years ago to astronaut Malcolm Scott Carpenter, the second American to orbit the earth, from his father the day before he left and printed in his biography. I think a lot about what I tell my kids -- like a rocket, a few degrees of ...

Ha! Halfway through my mind registered that something was off.... Since when had you become the writer of resurrection? Lol... Then I swiped the article back up to see that it wasn't written by you... :-)

Hard to believe after having sushi all over the world, including Japan, I would find week after week, the freshest, most delicious fish in a tiny dive in a strip mall above a Pizza Hut. Echigo is certainly the best purist sushi (no cream cheese rolls, no to-go orders) in Los Angeles.

Tom Anderson originally shared:

"The thing I hate the most about advertising is that it attracts all the bright, creative and ambitious young people, leaving us mainly with the slow and self-obsessed to become our artists.. Modern art is a disaster area. Never in the field of human history has so much been used by so many to say so little." -- Banksy

Pretty cool advertisement in this image. Here's a link of 70 other intriguing ones: http://bit.ly/qIzN59 Do you agree with Banksy?

1) Not all advertising is "shilling crap to the masses." You can work in advertising for a charity, a nonprofit foundation, or the noble endeavor of your choice. I don't think the medium inherently diminishes the work.

2) Until NEA funding is increased by 10,000% or the well-to-do decide en masse that being a "patron" to a promising artist should be high on their financial priority list, don't expect a change. Because the "self-obsessed" are the most likely to engage in the relentless self-promotion that success requires.

Nice, professional. Kept our boat with them on our first trip to Shelter Island in 2009, and they were our first call when we can back.
