Check out http://deadman.io it's a digital dead man's switch I created for the LSRC hackathon.
Hi! Thanks for checking out Deadman.IO. It's something I threw together for the LSRC hackathon in 17 hours. It is a tech demo and is currently running on free quota--that means that things can and wil...

It looks like my ssh tunnels from China might be not so easy in the future. Does this mean no more facebook and netflix when I'm on the mainland? :(

So this really hit me.
At a memorial service for her brother, Mona Simpson recalled his love of beauty and his family, and his final moments.

Holy crap does this model plane haul ass. And sure enough, he lands it safely. The take-off alone was incredible.

Very, very, very fast Turbine powered RC Jet!

I finished "Pawn of Prophecy", the first book in the Belgariad last night. To be honest, I found it to be flat. The characters were little more than one dimensional, most of the book was spent in fairly uninteresting scenarios, magic system is too cryptic (bet you didn't expect that one, but if you read Rothfuss you know how awesome it is to have some scientific basis for magic/alchemy). It doesn't help that I read it after reading some amazing work by Patrick Rothfuss, George R.R. Martin, and Peter Hamilton (well, the last 50% of Judas Unchained really didn't do it for me). Unless I hear a compelling reason to keep reading Eddings, I think I'll switch off to something else.

+Colin McMillen shared this flowchart earlier of the top books on Reddit. The books on here that look most interesting to me that I haven't read yet are: Snow Crash, Hyperion, World War Z. Or should I stick to the Belgariad? Is the payoff worth it?
