It looks like my ssh tunnels from China might be not so easy in the future. Does this mean no more facebook and netflix when I'm on the mainland? :(

I finished "Pawn of Prophecy", the first book in the Belgariad last night. To be honest, I found it to be flat. The characters were little more than one dimensional, most of the book was spent in fairly uninteresting scenarios, magic system is too cryptic (bet you didn't expect that one, but if you read Rothfuss you know how awesome it is to have some scientific basis for magic/alchemy). It doesn't help that I read it after reading some amazing work by Patrick Rothfuss, George R.R. Martin, and Peter Hamilton (well, the last 50% of Judas Unchained really didn't do it for me). Unless I hear a compelling reason to keep reading Eddings, I think I'll switch off to something else.

+Colin McMillen shared this flowchart earlier of the top books on Reddit. The books on here that look most interesting to me that I haven't read yet are: Snow Crash, Hyperion, World War Z. Or should I stick to the Belgariad? Is the payoff worth it?
