Happy to be in in some of these community photos.  Making our connections count takes courage to be vulnerable sharing ourselves with others. Also, it takes courage to listen and be present with others' "situations" in life.  #AllLivesMatter

Nice move
Github wants your research repositories (code, or otherwise) to be citable, so they've implemented Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) for your repositories. Github has also created a discount where individual academic research...

PyCon 2014 sold out last Monday, but if you're going you may want to note this 2-day boot camp during sprints. http://pycon.blogspot.ca/2014/02/software-carpentry-at-pycon.html

Now here is a great concept...

Adobe is on to something. Hardware and software that go together and let you do new things--or make old things much easier.

Project Mighty

What else could be re-imagined with Bluetooth Low Energy, capacitive touch screens, high resolution cameras, real-time image processing, infra-red sensors, gyros, proximity detection, and other technologies we have today?

The result of my fun Saturday morning.

In the face of open contributions, and agile development, citing source code or data in research needs some aware discipline to be useful.
MIT's handbook for students says: What does it mean to “cite” a source? ... In writing a computer program, it means:You use comments to credit the source of any code you adapted from an open source site or other external sou...

Join David Richo and me for dinner and open discussion in San Francisco on Sunday, November 10th:

Open Source Community Building & Management, with Love

Data from neurobiology show the brain structures which are our emotional drives.   The evolution over the past 100 years of a view of what primary emotions might be (and how they work - results? or drivers of action+thought?) only partially mapped to how we are.   Now we have data.   How does this change how we might approach managing our open source communities?

I think it maps better, and will enhance our community building efforts.

Join in, contribute to what promises to be some insightful and stimulating discussion.   We can accommodate about 65 people.
