Impressionist Chesapeake
Doesn't the water look like a French Impressionist painted it? Just me? Ah well. So, I did a thing. @NASAOcean tweeted a picture of the lower Chesapeake this morning. #ChesapeakeBay where land, ocean,&biology travel thru time, &humanity, for better or worse,...

"Forget The Camera"
Every year, I post some part of Gene Cernan's now-infamous last words spoken on the Moon, because every year the expanse widens between us and the time when humans explored other worlds, or even attempted to leave the gravity well of our home. The future ha...

Girl Scout Astronauts
It's Women's History Month, and that means celebrating all the awesomeness of the X Chromosome! I was raised in scouting, so I wanted to kick off the March blogging with the space-faring scouts. Did you know that, according to NASA and GSUSA , over 90% of f...

#WhiteHouseTour  Originally built between 1792-1800, the White House is a National Heritage Site, Museum, active Office for the Executive Branch, and residence to the President of the United States. Tours are arranged through congressional representatives. I want to thank Rep. John Carney and his office again for indulging my request, as the wait can sometimes be months. If you have never been, or the last time you were there was grade school (like me), contact your Congress person today. When you do get your tour, make sure to be there about 40-50 minutes early, because that line to get in the gate is looooong.
The security is understandably fierce, but well worth your patience. The Secret Service on duty at the multiple checks are very friendly as long as you are abiding the rules, and I suggest saying a friendly "Hello/How are You" because they are human beings after all, and looking out for your safety as much as the President's.
Inside, ask questions at every stop. They are not in the room only to keep an eye on you. They are there to provide information, and are more than happy to do so!
There is a lot I missed on my tour, and I plan on going back within the next year. It is a beautiful place, and walking through even the tour floors fills you with the history and nostalgia of our country. #History   #UnitedStates   #America   #WhiteHouse   #WashingtonDC

The #airbnb house I stayed at last week was, in a word, sublime. Books were on every table, and if it wasn't a book, it was a plant; the downstairs decor had an Asian (mostly Chinese) flair - who knew I'd be staying with kindred spirits? The house was originally an orchard farmhouse, built in the 1910s, and it sits along the Cayuga Creek. I wish I'd taken the time to photograph it with my camera, because it really deserves it, and the people that own it are some of the most down-to-earth. (But really, aren't all airbnb hosts?)
If you ever go to the Niagara area, I know where you should stay.

#Delaware 's  #TallShip  - the #KalmarNyckel . Originally a Dutch warship or armed merchant ship, she brought the first permanent settlers from Sweden to the #Delmarva  Peninsula in the 1630s. She was extremely fast and agile for a vessel of the period, and her modern namesake is as well. Find more information on the history of the vessel here: http://www.kalmarnyckel.org/docs/knf_guidebook.pdf   #NetDE   #History   #America
