The Spice and Pepper girls are really getting into the laying spirit. We had 6 eggs from them yesterday. The eggs will be added to our spring menu in the form of an asparagus, crispy Serrano ham, wild garlic (from the garden) and soft poached deep fried egg salad. We cant wait for the asparagus season to get underway in early May.

Latest Review:
Another fabulous stay at a 1st class country house. This is our 3rd visit and it will not be our last. The hospitality is second to non, we have never had a bad stay. SJ, Mark and Mandy give the best service and nothing is too much trouble for them. The hot tub is a must to use. The food is top class and we always enjoy the atmosphere there. see you next time!!!

Thank you so much for your kind words Judith & Terry.

Baboo had her first experience at the sea-side this week. Mark went to visit his father and then took Boo to see the Solent – she took to it like a ‘duck to water’ so to speak! Played with the waves, seemed to know not to drink the water and had a lovely time collecting all the rubbish – she is extremely good at re-cycling!
She has also got a couple of new tricks; she has worked out that in order to get out of ‘her’ garden all she has to do is put a paw on the top of the fence push down and walk over – this give her the chance to herd Pepper and the Spice girls into the corner of the garden and sit prettily watching them – they are not in the least impressed! Her other trick is that she has learnt how to open doors – up on hind legs, put one paw on bolted side of doors (so she doesn’t fall through) and push the handle down on the other – freedom!! We think she is remarkably clever (of course!) for a 17 week old but can see this might become a bit of a problem!
S-J is taking her to London tomorrow – we are doing some gardening – Alexandra is planning to take Baboo for a walk in the park so she is being bathed tonight – she really can’t go to London without looking her best!

This is for our bird fanciers – the kestrels are back – making a nest in the Ash by the stream – the noise they make is bizarre – a real screech as if they are in pain. The pigeons don’t seem to mind them – rather suspect the Dormice might though!

Squidge is still in a bate about Baboos arrival – what she doesn’t realise is that she has Baboo under much more control than we do –

The Pepper and Spice girls are getting very brave – off down the drive, round to the front part of the garden although they haven’t, as yet, had a paddle in the brook – although it wouldn’t surprise us. Lavender and Frizzle are very broody and sit indoors all day and have to be lifted out in order to eat and drink.

Baboo had her first walk up on the Ridgeway; having had her jabs it was time – she handled it all well, not too confident but not a jibbering wreck either so all in all a good 15 minute walk. She is, however, terrified of the BIG YELLOW MONSTER THAT MAKES A LOT OF NOISE – the lawn mower to you and me!! Not a bad thing to see something frightens her!

Baboo has just completed her first weekend at Brook Barn and has now been here for a week. She loves having guests here to make a fuss of her and was very keen to say goodbye to everyone - she sat (very prettily) on the grass watching everyone leave! She is a confident little dog but is terrified of Gladys and the chicks and refuses to go down to the paddock with Mark to put them to bed - Pepper and the Spice girls are much more fun - she is very happy to chase them. Squidge is still furious and hisses away at her which makes Baboo bark - with a bit of luck they might be friends this time next week......
The sun is shining and she is out on the grass sunbathing - it's a real dogs life!
