Small libraries should be cozy and make one feel at home. Wixom Public Library does not. The staff could be friendlier. Some of them feel put upon when asked for assistance. The previous director of the library, Lisa Hoenig, was officious, hostile, unfriendly and smug. I am glad she is gone. The two elderly librarians in the adult section don't seem very enlightened & are the least helpful in the entire library; sadly, they may be unhelpful because they are unenlightened, a vicious cycle. There is delight among library patrons when other librarians occasionally relieve them. The most recent inventory of fiction books tends to the light, romance type. The library also tends to attract rowdy, loud types. Library staff should make an effort to keep them out or stop the disruptive behavior. Current checkout staff is mostly friendly and capable. Since my last review, the library has cut back on hours of service - not a sign of an improving organization. The library also has a high employee turnover, usually an indication of bad governance. We should be mourning the library's 40th anniversary instead of celebrating it. It's turning into the little library that can't.
