Early review on my new Chromebook: Set up is a breeze (log into Gmail and you're pretty much set), App access is a little wonky (pin some to the task bar, but the rest are presented in panels that you don't have control of order), contractless 3g is easy to switch on/off (a palty 100megs/month is free, but you can buy day or monthly passes). Still need to test offline capabilities.

Wow, Hobbit. A pretty boring movie. Let's talk, go someplace, and talk some more. And occasionally fight orcs. That I'm pretty sure weren't in the book.

Although not conclusive, research into Viking marauder grave sites in the UK reveal what appears to be lots of women buried with swords, shields etc. My distant ancestors may have been violent, but they did believe in equal opportunity.

Even cooler" the entire talk with slides about possible alien evolution and how any humanoid alien is really unlikely. The proof? Evolution on Earth.
OK, I'm feeling guilty: I'm off at The Amaz!ng Meeting enjoying myself, and totally neglecting the blog readers who aren't lucky enough to be here too. And since I've been getting lots of requests to ...

While this appears to be a great year for gay rights, women rights are taking a beating.
Chart by Guttmacher Institute. On the reproductive rights front, there's one bit of good news. Only 10 state legislatures are still in session and many of those will soon adjourn. The bad news: in...

Oh Canada, can never get away from you! Talking to my boss today about the remote (very remote!) possibility our team getting moved to Toronto. Who knows, I might be getting my sushi fix at the Lunch Box again!

Interesting study that measured both the subjective (how you feeling?) and the objective (lung function) and a good description of the placebo effect.

Placebos are still kind of sketchy since the doctor has to get the patient to believe it works. Also when tested, drugs have to be proved to be better than placebo, so giving a placebo is still often a lesser option.
Researchers found stark differences in the objective measure of lung function and how patients actually felt.

Yes Kirk, homosexual rights is destructive to our current civilization. Also previously destructive to our civilization: civil rights, women rights, workers rights, equal protection under the law, and universal suffrage. To name a few.

It's called growing pains. (See what I did there? I kill myself!)

Texas School Board just approved that science content to be included in their science curriculum. Scientists are baffled (happily).

Quick read why Kirk banging all the alien babes wouldn't work. (Note: includes a biological image that you see in zoos)

Hypnotoad! From Conservation International comes the announcement of the rediscovery of a toad long thought extinct: The Sambas Stream Toad, or Bornean Rainbow Toad as it's also called (Ansonia la...

Although I'm for free speech, religious pregnancy counseling centers that masquerade themselves as unbiased are using deception by omission to snare unwary clients.
