"But the most important part of it is that, if you look at an entire portfolio, if you have even a small slice—and I’m talking even as low as ten to fifteen percent—of a portfolio in non-traditional asset classes, in alternative investments, what you can end up doing is you can really lower the overall volatility of the portfolio, which ends up lowering the downside risk, and can allow for more consistency in terms of results over the long term."

"If you think about it, with an investment of say $2,500, you can invest in 100 different small businesses through Lending Loop and build a very, very diversified portfolio. So, really, the concept of Lending Loop is making diversified fixed income investing available to everyone. Once you invest in a loan, you will receive monthly repayments of both interest and principal, similar to a mortgage. The month after you invest, you actually start to see a return right away on your initial investment."

"By far the biggest common thread for most bubbles historically has been an outsized growth of debt. You can look at that in a couple of ways. You can say, is debt growing significantly faster than GDP or the savings rate? That generally shows that there’s a disconnect, and that’s one of the main things I look for in a bubble--when debt growth goes parabolic and as a result prices disconnect from the fundamentals."

"my idea was always to give advice, to give quality advice, when I first entered the industry twenty years ago. When I did enter the industry, I didn’t have any role models. I didn’t know anybody who was doing this job, and I always thought I would get training on how to advise properly, and the training that I got, when I first started off in the industry was how to sell, and I wasn’t very keen on that."

"An RNN, on the other hand, would analyze the movie frame by frame, in order. After the RNN analyzes each frame, it transfers some of what it learned to analyze the next frame. Since this is much closer to the human experience, it would theoretically be better at simulating the human viewer’s experience."

"One of the differentiators for Resurgent is that in most cases I try to put forward collaborative, win-win proposals that I believe would benefit the company and its shareholders, as well as the incumbent board of directors and management team."

"I believe there are some similarities between image processing and technical analysis, since technical analysis involves analyzing the shape of a stock’s price history. I therefore figured that convolutional neural networks could recreate some of these technical analysis strategies."

"Trend Following is a rule-based strategy that relies purely on price history to generate buy and sell signals. The strategy is similar to momentum investing with respect to its sole reliance on price history, but the actual rules are different."

"I believe that machine learning has the potential to automate a large portion of an investor’s due diligence. For example, I think we’ll be able to program algorithms that can detect changes in a company’s accounting policies, which could lead to fraud detection. Other algorithms may also help detect trends in a company’s sales by analyzing the tone by which its customers speak of the company."

"However, what’s interesting is that other stock market confidence indices are not showing similarly high scores. Yale tracks three other confidence indices - ‘Buy-on-Dips’, ‘Crash’, and ‘Valuation’ confidence indices - and all of them are scoring below historical means. Let me explain what each of these indices measure."
