Sir Ranulph is at the half way point, just short of the second checkpoint. Half a marathon down, half a marathon to go.

Respect to the camels walking the Marathon Des Sables route. Possibly the fittest camels in the desert.

Sir Ranulph Fiennes has just passed checkpoint one and is approaching the 16km mark.

The latest update from the Sahara. #RanulphFiennes   #RunRanRun   #MarathonDesSables

Sir Ranulph set off at 8.30 this morning - his frost bitten fingerless hand wrapped in a sock to keep the chill off. He headed off across the flat, open dessert and reached checkpoint one three hours later.

His trainer, Rory Coleman said: “Today is the biggest test for Ran, we need to be really careful. I don’t know if he is going to make it.”
