My husband, Mel, and I had the sweet privilege of going to the Laie Hawaii Temple the day after Christmas. The grounds were so beautifully manicured, and the vibrant, emerald green colors were stunning! But the best part of our day was being inside the temple, helping husbands and wives and their children become eternal families through the new and everlasting covenant of marriage.

The words of D&C 132:46 often come to my mind: “And verily, verily, I say unto you, that whatsoever you seal on earth shall be sealed in heaven; and whatsoever you bind on earth, in my name and by my word, saith the Lord, it shall be eternally bound in the heavens.” What a privilege it is to be able to stand in proxy and make covenants for those who physically cannot do it for themselves.

Brother and Sister Williams of Alberta, Canada, are one of the many couples and individuals who have been serving as addiction recovery missionaries during the past year. I am so grateful for all of those who serve in callings. They and many others have been called to assist members of the Church in their area to overcome past addictions and give spouse and family support. I urge those who are struggling and their spouses to go to their bishops or Relief Society and youth leaders. These leaders know about the resources the Church has in place and professionals that can help you.

I have been pondering recently about how we each make different sacrifices in our lives. Recently I spoke at the Welfare Services 47th Annual Driver Safety Banquet, where I met many good men and their wives.

These drivers' families sacrifice a great deal of family time while their fathers and husbands are on the road making important deliveries to Deseret Transportation and Deseret Industries across the United States. Few people who receive the end products realize all that these great members sacrifice!

I know that just as these men and women make sacrifices in their lives, you make meaningful sacrifices as well. Please know that each sacrifice we make helps us become more and more like our Savior.

Following my mother's passing, I discovered a great treasure among her things, a little sewing kit with a note enclosed from my grandfather Harry Andrew Welsch, Anna's son, to my mother. It reads, "Dear Barbara, I sent this sewing kit to my mother as a Christmas present from France in 1918. Before she died, she asked that it be given to you. Keep it always and remember my mother; she loved you a lot. — Daddy" I am so grateful for the example of a disciple of Christ that my great-grandmother set for my mother. Three generations later, I am blessed and inspired by the dedication to the Lord of both my mother and great-grandmother Anna Willi Welsch. Who inspires you? #LDSwomen #LDShistory #ShareGoodness

Last weekend, I was thrilled to be a part of a special reunion for my husband, Mel, and two of his siblings, Robert Reeves and Lou Ellen Stout. For the first time in 40 years, the three were reunited with Raphael Bear of the Yavapai Nation in Fort McDowell, Arizona. Raphael lived with the Reeves family during his junior high and high school years as a Native American Indian placement brother. It was wonderful to have this joyful reunion and reminisce about old times. The love and respect that they all have for each other was so evident. It was almost as if the years had never passed!

I loved being able to meet with some of our Native American sisters and leaders and am thrilled about the great success of the garden projects, which are helping foster self-reliance.
