Are you feeling winter in your soul? This post is for you...
My father-in-law was diagnosed with leukemia in 2008, a few weeks before the first tulips popped their glossy mouths open, toward the spring sky. Our daughters were six and three at the time, and they immediately asked us if “Bop”—as they called him—was going to die. The prognosis wasn’

Has your marriage gone dull? This one's for you.
Milo and Wanda have always sat in the same pew of our church, on the north side. And they were always touching, holding hands. His arm was often draped around her, along the back of the pew. Her hand rested on his leg. He dragged around an oxygen tank. She needed knee surgery. They'd been ma

2,000 Facebook friends, but the loneliest person in the room. Sound familiar?
I spent the past weekend with about a hundred Jesus-sisters at a retreat center a few miles south of our farm. We call it The Hill. For three days we hang out in a retreat center, set among the trees. We drive up there -- up from our valleys -- seeking to set our hinds' feet on high pla

To some, the message of the cross is foolishness. Call us fools then. But also call us this: People of the cross.
Because in the end, it’s the only label that really matters.
It's the faces. We won't forget the faces. The set jaws, the stoic eyes. We can't forget how they were paraded along the seashore. They were earnest, and on their knees, before their martyrdom, knowing that it was going to end right there, in the sand. All because they wer

Join us for a Google+ Hangout .... "I'm breaking up with perfection" with Holley Gerth and Jennifer Dukes Lee.
"You are an amazing person." Do you believe that? Let me confess something: I've been quite able to turn to the person next to me in at church or on the gymnasium bleachers -- or right here on this blog -- and tell you how truly amazing you are. And I've always meant it

It's time to ditch our toxic relationship with "perfection" and embrace God's perfect love instead. Authors Jennifer Dukes Lee and Holley Gerth invite you to a fun, honest and insightful conversation about how that can happen. It's a Valentine's Day treat you can give yourself and everyone in your life who needs to kiss "perfection" good-bye.
This Hangout On Air is hosted by Jennifer Lee. The live video broadcast will begin soon.

Dear Miss Perfect, you have been around for far to long. You put others down, judging them in unrealistic ways, and when this happens they forget how truly wonderful they are. So it is time to send you packing. You have overstayed your welcome and I would love it if you would just move on out of my life for good, cause you see I am making room for Miss Grace, Miss Forgiveness and my newest addition of friends Miss Love Joy.

The hardest part about spiritual disciplines? The discipline. :) ... Here are some ways to nurture your relationship with God in a busy, busted-up world.
Three mornings a week, I wake up at 5:09 a.m. to head to the gym. On those mornings, I contemplate hurling my alarm clock across the room. For me, waking up that early is the opposite of fun. But I drag my stubborn self out of bed because it’s good for me. And by the time I get to the gym, I r

Get real. Really.
Hey friend, It's Monday, and you know what I'm praying? I'm praying that we live comfortable in our own skin today. I'm praying that realness becomes a habit. I pray that we'd know there is far more right about us, than there is "wrong" about us. And th

Realness becomes a habit - yes!  We need more of this in our lives, in our churches. :)

Don't feel guilty about it. Carve some space in your day ... for YOU.
I had lunch the other day. Which may not sound like a big deal, but it was. Trust me. Here's why: It wasn't a "grab-a-boiled-egg-and-turkey-from-the-fridge lunch." It wasn't an "eat-at-the-kitchen-counter lunch." It was real lunch. The kind where a pers

Don't give up. Even if you're the last one on the track.
My eyes popped open to the alarm. It was o'dark-thirty, and every inch of me wanted to fall back asleep. But I willed my feet to the floor, then shuffled through the inky darkness, to slip on my workout clothes and shoes. I drove the bumpy gravel roads to the gym where a dozen of us gath

Join us for a 28-day journey. One verse. For every day of February. All pointing to who you truly are, in Christ. Details on the blog.
Do you know what a treasure you are? Do you know how deeply loved you are? Maybe you're like me, in need of a fresh reminder that you were created on purpose, for a glorious purpose, in the name of love. Your Savior loved you to life, even through His own death. He is your ultimate Valenti

In an age of cynicism? This....
Doris was our pastor's wife in the early '80s. When I called her house -- often looking for my mom -- it was from our old rotary phone in the kitchen. It was the kind of phone with a twirly cord that could stretch the length of a room. She didn't know who was calling, of c

So love this, Jennifer. And I love you! A friend had just called me and I SO appreciated the call. I needed to know, so needed to know, that I was loved.
