As the Christmas holidays are drawing near, we want to take a couple of moments to reflect on some of the highlights of 2012 for us at UEC and the TESOL Institute.

In brief summary, our TESOL and TEFL courses have been well frequented, with more graduates joining the Buffalo State, State University of New York Master degree program, UEC has again been providing more international school professional development sessions this year, Thai schools have been requesting English language lessons for their English and general teaching population from UEC as well as been calling repeatedly for UEC to send our best 120 hour TESOL course graduates as teachers.

Despite myths and stereotypes, gender differences are not hard wired and the root cause of children gender identity according to recent brain studies.
It is interesting to note that the march toward gender-specific clothes was not a quick transition. Pink and blue arrived, along with other pastels, as colors for babies in the mid-19th century. However, the two colors were not promoted as specific for each gender until just before the onset of World War I.

Today’s blue is for boys and pink is for girls dictate wasn’t established until the 1940s, as a result of Americans’ preferences as interpreted by manufacturers and retailers. The baby boomers were raised in gender-specific clothing. Boys dressed like their fathers, girls like their mothers. Girls had to wear dresses to school, though unadorned styles and tomboy play clothes were acceptable.

The most famous Muay Thai (Thai Boxing) stadium in the world is set to close its doors in 2014, to be replaced by a more modern venue located on the outskirts of Bangkok.

The Lumpini Stadium, which is owned by the Thai Army, opened in 1956 and has been holding championship bouts with famous fighters for over half a decade.

Lumpinee is one of the few places in Thailand where gambling is permitted and it takes place at the second level. The betting is done by hand-signals, just like at the stock exchange trading floor. The security service at Lumpinee is managed by armed Military Police officers. Foreigners usually occupy the expensive ringside seats, while gamblers and aficionados prefer the second or third ring of seats upstairs.

On the GI Bill you will receive more than enough for school, living, and recreation. This is a truly more ideal situation than attending universities in America. When you attend university in Thailand, your classes are taught in English with people from all over the world.
