Rainbows are circles, not arches
Mind blown
This video, shot by a crane operator working on the 1,500 ft tall Lakhta Centre skyscraper in St Petersburg, Russia, shows it in all it's round glory.

In theory, every rainbow is a circle, but thanks to the Earth's curvature, only the upper half can be seen. Go to a higher point, like the top of a construction crane or an airplane, and rainbows are revealed to be a complete circle.

If the Boy Scouts Had Any Credibility Left, They Threw It Away at Jamboree
The Scouts’ National Jamboree takes place every four years and it's not out of like for a President make a brief address. Nobody said it had to be classy I guess... Trump turned what should have been a patriotic, uncontroversial speech into a self-aggrandizing political rally with the attendees essentially pledging their allegiance to him.

While the political leaning was totally out of place at an event like this, Trump took it a step beyond that, telling the Scouts present how awesome it was to own a yacht and how a friend of his totally got laid all the time.

“[My friend] sold his company for a tremendous amount of money, and he went out a bought a big yacht. And he had a very… interesting life. I won’t go into any more than that ‘cause you’re Boy Scouts. So I’m not going to tell you what he did.”

When I was a kid, it was a group that was synonymous with leadership, self-reliance, and generosity. Then, at least for me, there was a time when the anti-gay, anti-atheist bigotry overrode all of that. And now this... what they allowed Trump to do violated their own policies on scout participation in political events.

"Uniformed unit members and leaders may participate in flag ceremonies at political events and may lead the Pledge of Allegiance; however, they should retire after the ceremony and not remain on the speakers’ platform or in a conspicuous location where attendees or viewers could construe their presence as an endorsement or symbol of support. In addition, photos of candidates or Scouts in uniform or with BSA marks and logos are not allowed in political campaign materials of any kind.

Volunteers and professionals must be alert to situations that would imply BSA favoritism for one candidate over another. Strict observance of our longstanding policy against the active participation of uniformed Scouts and leaders in political events is mandatory." - http://troopleader.org/policy-on-scout-participation-in-political-events/

I loved scouting when I was a kid; I'm so glad I didn't let my son join.

Judge denies demand for privacy assessment on Trump voter fraud data request
A federal judge on Monday refused to block President Donald Trump's advisory panel from demanding that the states hand over their registered voters' full names, political affiliations, addresses, dates of birth, criminal records, the last four digits of their Social Security numbers, and other personal identifying information, including whether they voted in elections the past decade.

The judge limited the commission to collecting only what each state could provide according to its own privacy laws and as many as 44 states said they can't provide it under their own state laws.

Trump claims that millions of votes were cast illegally in favor of Clinton and that's why this needs to be done.

Buddhism on the Blockchain
"Last week, startup company Lotos published its new project on Reddit aiming to create a decentralized religious community, supporting Buddhism and meditation, based on the Ethereum blockchain. According to the company’s white paper, the community’s structure will be segmented into three parts: “an off-blockchain software platform” connecting the teachers and the students; “an internal economy supported by ERC20 tokens purchased by subscription fees and a central banker smart contract;” and “a website and
database backend connected to the network with Swarm.”"

This isn't bad in and of itself... but I can see how many Buddhists would be against it. I've never met a teacher who charges a fee. Yes, there are centers that do and/or you may have to pay for your 'space' at a center (for a retreat or something), but as a practice teachers do not accept money. So while curious I can see how this could be seen as problematic... and apparently so do Lotos backers as they are now saying, "Move away from 'Buddhist’ to ‘Secular Meditation’.”

Facebook Is Testing Paid Subscriptions
When Facebook launched Instant Articles in May 2015, publishers called on it to include a subscription option, but while Facebook explored the idea, it didn’t come to fruition partly over concerns that it would create roadblocks for its users to access content. The media companies using the platform found they weren’t making money on the feature on their own websites, which prompted more calls from publishers to charge users.

Facebook's subscription model could be tested at the end of the year with a small group of publishers and then rolled out more broadly in 2018. It is aiming for a diverse group in the pilot with both U.S. and international publishers taking part. The New York Times, Tronc, Hearst, The Economist, the U.K.’s Telegraph and Germany’s Bild have been briefed on the plans.
