Enjoying the Winter Games?

"It takes a lot of dedication to get to the Olympics as an athlete, and apparently that goes for some of the competitors' parents as well."

Check out this 10,000 mile bike tour!

Enjoyed this - here's to backyard adventures! (Granted this guy has one heck of a "backyard.")

Forget your self-tracking drone, man's best friend can now wear the GoPro. Do what you will with that.

Love this organization. They do a lot for the shores and oceans here in HI. They've got a competition going right now for designing a "sand sifter" for removing #microplastics from beach sands.

I was thinking archaeologists might have some ideas because we know how to handle dirt! Except we call this screening (at least in the US...) Check it out. #beach #cleanup #hawaii

Qasr Al-Harrana, a "desert castle" in Jordan that dates back to before 720 AD (based on an Arabic inscription found on the plaster above one of the interior doorways). Southeast corner, limestone and mortar.

It might look nice and warm out, but it's deceiving! It was a bitterly cold day and it was a relief to slip inside this dusty place and look around just in order to cut the chill.

Show your stuff

All right, back at it getting some prints ready for an upcoming exhibition in Hilo, Hawai’i.

Truth be told, it’s more or less the same show as what Jan Becket and I hung late last year in Honolulu. Called Sites of North Kohala, it features a number of views (60+) from archaeological places in the northernmost district of the Big Island along with maps of eight sites and five interpretive bodies of text.

Some of the copy is here:

I’ve learned a lot working with Jan on the exhibitions, which are primarily his doing. We’ve got a great little system going for the prints, which involves mounting them to something called Gatorboard. Ever used it?

Gatorboard at artsupply.com

With spray adhesive, it’s an effective and reasonably cost effective way to get a show up (or to display your own stuff). Traditional framing is so expensive, and at the last venue I actually think this solution ended up looking better anyway!

*Note: Gatorboard is not an acid free material in case you’re dealing with archival or museum archives…

When the surf's not cooperating, point it into the mountains of O'ahu - you will not be disappointed!

"Time to die come inside"

While out working on some trailrunning shots with +Susie Stephen, we came across this, uh, beckoning driveway near a trailhead.

Made me laugh, and then wonder how crazy it really is down that road.
