Hello fellow figuratives... how nice to find so many in one place... we are like smokers of the art world aren't we?!?!?

Just saying hello! At last a forum for figurative painters! We are normally so uncool!!
And quite right about the nude, fat, thin, old or young, they have a story to tell... (god this pic looks so much better bigger as its a life size painting!)

Just uploading a few pics and saying hi! I have his parents coming soon and several others. Will post his brother my Godson Jake who is almost so cute the biggest challenge was to not make it look like a chocolate boxy...His brother Jake is a stunning boy too, who incidentally loved posing!! V unusual for a kid who I find so hard to paint from life, but try at least one or two where possible....

A recent portrait... again, another tough market to break into, but happening fortunately! The portrait aspect is such a small part of the painting. It does tell a story if you knew about Luka, Its about paint, texture, something not to be taken too seriously and yet Its got to work as a painting more than just another portrait... In the states they help, teach, and sell figurative painters so much more than we do. The art schools here (not all, that I cant say) dont seem to teach any of the basics anymore, its so sad. I walked out of a very reputable one because I wanted to draw and learn to mix colour, not chuck paint at 12 ft boards in dungarees!! There is amazing talent out there, the BP is a great show, but what is it with the photo realist trend??? Take a photo, not paint one! Painting is about paint!! I'm usually much more liberal, promise!
Didnt mean to rant, honest! I love new exciting urban art of all genres, just give us figurative painters (who have to teach ourselves primarily) a bit more of a platform... thats all! Am I alone in this view???
