A major concern of anyone buying a business should be whether or not they will be exposed to any of the seller’s liabilities.

"Potential Changes to VA Rating Program May Mean Less Benefits for Veterans"  by +Kenneth Hiller
More changes to the VA disability process may be in store after the Wall Street Journal uncovered that a computer program may be awarding veterans more benefits than they would otherwise receive. According to current and former VA employees, VA raters – those who determine the level of disability of a veteran and what compensation the veteran is eligible to receive – are instructed to input a veteran’s reported symptoms into an automated program that calculates the veteran’s disability rating even if the reported symptoms are contradicted by a doctor’s evaluation. In some cases, this causes veterans to receive thousands of dollars in additional benefits that they would not receive if the VA rater examined their case file and assigned a disability rating manually.

"Veterans Disability and Agent Orange-Related Conditions" by +Kenneth Hiller
Last month a bipartisan bill was introduced in the U.S. Senate by Senators Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Steve Daines (R-MT) seeking to expand eligibility forveterans’ disability benefits. The Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act of 2015 would clarify federal law to allow full VA coverage for veterans suffering from Agent Orange-related diseases and conditions if the veteran served within the “territorial seas” or up to 12 miles off the coast of Vietnam. Presently, only veterans who served on land or on a ship using inland waterways during the Vietnam War are eligible for disability benefits for Agent Orange-related conditions. Both the Senate bill as well as an identical proposal in the House of Representatives are presently in committee.
