What now?

To all my friends and followers here on Google+:

I have been running our Glass Wings mailing list and blog since long before Google existed and I will continue running it after Google+ closes. You can still follow me via email, RSS or the website https://www.glasswings.com.au/blog and I will no doubt eventually integrate it with some other form of social media.

You can also follow me via Diaspora user xanni@diaspora.glasswings.com. Please contact me if you would like an invitation to create your own account on our server!

When the U.S.S.R. collapsed, Washington bet on the global spread of democratic capitalist values—and lost.

I appraise "ranked choice" or "preferential" voting - we've used it for the Hugos and Nebulas for four decades and so does Australia. This is no arcane matter but sheer survival for the Democrats, allowing them to parse up to 20 candidates in just two months of 2020.. an impossible task without RC/PV. Also in this weekday posting: the literal trillions stolen by ex-commissars in the east... so much for Marxist idealism! Hint: it's about human nature and how to harness it for positive ends -- Marx didn't know how. Guess who did?

Happy Harmony Day everyone!

You can see the Morrison Government's commitment to harmony and anti-racism for the 20th annual Harmony Day on the official government website: https://www.harmony.gov.au/

They've helpfully broken all the existing links around the web from previous years.

The US is heading for a massive disaster. The fall of the empire. Let's hope it doesn't include another major war.

I still prefer wired keyboards, and this is one reason why.

This is literally blaming the messenger, and distracting from those actually responsible (the horrible, despicable excuse for a human being who carried out the attack and the awful people who cheered him on), to instead blame the tools of communication that all of use. We use them because they are convenient and powerful. And that includes for horrific messages as well as nicer ones.
