As dozens of students from UCSD blocked the northbound I-5 this morning, thousands of irate commuters were left stranded and unable to get to work. At least one of those drivers was angry enough to push a protester and steal his bullhorn. Tyree Landrum tells us he was on his way to work at the Ross Dress for Less when he was caught in the standstill. He got out of his car, and in front of our...

Continent on Fire: Map Shows 6 Months of Wildfires Burning North America...
www.wired.com

All the major wildfires that have hit the bulk of North America over the last 6 months make for a strikingly full picture when put together.

They have a decent selection of plants available year round and a clean, well-lit store. Look for discounted plants to score great garden deals! Make sure the nursery entrance is available for check-out as the heavy outdoor supplies are located downhill and far from the main checkout location. This means that if you are buying numerous bags of cement, you'll be hauling them uphill (and in the hot sun) until you reach the level ground inside the store itself. They open the outdoor checkout on most days around about 8:00am, but double-check just to be sure.

A little hard to get to because of its location behind a corporate plaza area and a large office building, but relatively easy once you know where to go. The nursery entrance is off center from the parking lot and makes it hard to load a bunch of plants or heavy outdoor supplies without pulling your vehicle right up to that entrance location. The plants are decently stocked and watered on a pretty regular schedule. They have a greenhouse area that now stores supplies and some plants. In the summertime, it's extremely hot and humid in that area. They could use some ventilation improvements to make it a better shopping experience.

Needs better trails and city maintenance, but is a great natural area with lots of wildlife from armadillos, opossums, raccoons, foxes, deer, owls, possible coyote sighting, and much more. There are a few oak trees that must be close to at least 100 or more years old, if not as old as 200 years old. Those trees were likely on the property when the Beitels first settled the area in the 1800s.

A great store with easy access to the nursery area that always has decently stocked plants. Don't let the trains alarm you even though the train tracks are within a dozen feet or so of the nursery perimeter. Sometimes the plants are not watered enough it seems and so the plants can be hit or miss for some varieties. Also, the hours for which the store has the nursery gate open are limited. Plan to park near the nursery for loading heavy soil, mulch, and rock bags or plants when the nursery opens up after about 8:00am on most days.

Decently organized, clean, and very professional like most all Home Depots. They have an elongated outdoor nursery that stays relatively stocked with new plants all year long.
