I don't think this economic model works
Apparently I have 25G of Google Drive storage from HTC (How?! Last phone I bought from them was 2-3 years ago - it's a fine phone I might add). This is over and above the 9-ish gigs in the base Google offering that I'm not currently using.
In April next year it goes away. I don't think this will be a problem for me. I shall continue to not use it.
I had a similar experience with an Asus tablet. It came with some amount of free cloud storage for a limited period. So it was immediately worthless to me. I never used any of it. The transient nature is what makes it worthless.
But the alternative of "permanent" cloud storage is not going to be possible for the vendor (Even if it's one of those bait-and-switch style "Until we change our minds" models).
So my conclusion is that this kind of consumer retail cloud storage will never work. You're better off owning your own infrastructure and using something like OwnCloud to get access to it.

Now if only mobile data plans had enough quota to actually use that!

Parkway meets river
You could consider this the communication center of canberra. The central river crosses under the central roadway.

Just gave a guest lecture at the Australian National University on Linux Distributions for their Free and Open Source Software course. Loved it!

This year's monitor stand arrived
I had actually forgotten they arrived about this time of year. Next year I'll probably be even more surprised they still exist.
Still, I do like how they've slimmed them down a lot now. If only they could be electronically searchable from my phone.

Lumix GX7 zoom lens comparison shots
The GX7 came with a 14-42 manual-zoom kit lens. I recently got a bargain 45-150 manual zoom for it. So I thought I'd better take some comparison shots by standing 3-4m down one end of my kitchen and photographing the dish-cloth.

Enjoy!

Ja! I believe this has a "Z" series Atom CPU - intended for handheld devices, often with weird phone-like function blocked bundled in.

OK, it's official. +Lenovo Ideapad 100S is the worst laptop for Linux I've ever seen. Wow. Just, wow.

Probably the best value and quality of all the Weston Thai restaurants (Currently 2 others), A perfectly good Thai take-away with unpretentious decor and prices.

Had the tapas share plate. This was seafood based and was very fresh/edible. I can recommend this for an easy, unassuming lunch, yet still high quality.
