The Williams Conservatory promotes education, research, and outreach while providing University of Wyoming students, staff, and faculty and the Laramie community with a tranquil atmosphere.

The Williams Conservatory needs your help. With looming budget cuts, the Williams Conservatory will now be solely responsible to raise operational funds through plant sales, workshops, and fundraisers.

The relationships between plants and insects from the mid Mesozoic of Eastern Asia

Dr. Conrad Labandeira,
Curator of Paleoentomology at the Smithsonian Institution

Conrad’s talk will highlight recent astounding discoveries with his Chinese colleagues from the Mesozoic of NE China. These include insect body fossils and plant anatomical evidence demonstrating that insect pollination, and for good measure, the feeding and camouflage features seen in today’s butterflies, were in place in other lineages tens of millions of years before angiosperms or butterflies (Science 2009, BMC Evol Biol 2014, Proc. B, 2016).

The public is invited to attend the world premier of The Bearded Lady Project: Challenging the Face of Science on Friday, March 3rd. This film and photographic project celebrates the work of female paleontologists and highlights the challenges and obstacles they face. A preview screening of the documentary film, followed by Q&A with cast and crew members, will be held from 6:30-7:20 PM in Classroom Building, Room 133. The opening reception for the portrait exhibition will be from 7:30-9:00 PM in the UW Geological Museum.
