Visitor Picture: African Penguin
Visitors to the Aquarium snap some amazing pictures, and sometimes we just have to share them. This picture of an African penguin (Spheniscus demersus) really shows off their countershading colors—white on the tummy and black on the back.

This fancy camouflage helps penguins blend while swimming. Just imagine you're in the water with them. Countershading works from above by blending the penguin's black back into the dark ocean bottom and from below by blending the white belly into the bright surface of the water.

So it's not a tuxedo after all. Come see the penguins' dapper camouflage at the Aquarium! http://goo.gl/Vi128z

See the sea turtles
There are three species of sea turtles in the Giant Ocean Tank: loggerhead (Caretta caretta), green (Chelonia mydas) and Kemp's ridley (Lepidochelys kempii). They all have favorite resting spots and eating stations and names—like Myrtle. She's the uniquely-named (wink) 550-lb green sea turtle. Come get to  know them all!

SCIENCE!

The first man-made, biologically functional leaf has been created. It takes in carbon dioxide, water, and light and releases oxygen. That's good news for space travelers: http://cnet.co/1lSFUQB
