What do you do when the check engine light comes on? More importantly what should you do?

The check engine light is one way your car communicates problems to the driver.  The vehicle computer runs many preprogrammed test as well as monitoring multiple sensors on the network during operation.  When problems are detected the computer will store fault codes.  Depending on the severity of the fault code and/or its impact on emissions the computer will illuminate the check engine light.

If your check engine light is flashing IMMEDIATELY, bring your vehicle in for repairs.  Continued driving can result in severe damage.  If the light comes on and stay on over a day or two, schedule an appointment with Discount Automatics & Auto Repair for your vehicle to be checked.

Keep in mind that using a scan tool to retrieve fault codes is only the first step in diagnosing what repairs need to be done.  Beware of just replacing the part mentioned in the fault code in most cases this will result in a good part being replaced and money wasted.

Drivers often forget how critical the brake system is to their car.  They sometime ignore warning signs like “brakes grinding”, “vibrations when stopping”, or “brake pedal” problems.  If you’re experiencing any brake symptoms, you should have Discount Automatics & Auto Repair perform a brake inspection and help you put the brakes on a major accident.
