You may have noticed that Google Reader has expanded the page space devoted to decoration, white-space padding, and other useless cruft that gets in your way. The attached greasemonkey script is my attempt to fix that. I notice, though, that Google is doing a lot of DOM-monitoring magic behind the scenes to recraft the page to make it particular to your environment, so the fixes that worked for me may not work as well for you. You'll at least find it to be a good start, probably, if you're willing to do a little hacking yourself. You could probably also reuse much of it to write a script to remove some of the space-wasting cruft from the Google+ page as well.
