When one partner lives in long term care & the other doesn't the cost calculations can lead to devastating choices http://ow.ly/QlvKI
Rising nursing home costs have some Canadian seniors contemplating divorce in order to get out from under monthly bills they can no longer afford. A July 30 CBC New Brunswick report highlighted the plight of a seasonal cook who's husband has been in long term care for the past six years.

I hear of people falling for scams all the time and, sadly, senior citizens are so vulnerable

Summer is prime time for door-to-door roofing & paving scams & the phone is always ringing with yet another scam http://ow.ly/NJmpY
As we get older, especially those living alone in their own home, we may be more susceptible to fraud or scams. There are many types of deception perpetrated on the elderly, including door-to-door salespeople scams and well as telemarketing and email fraud. Here are some questions to ask and ...

We seem to be going through a rash of posts from people who don't understand the difference between a headshot and a portrait and the photographers get upset when told their image isn't a headshot. A couple of things: this community was created by a commercial headshot photographer who has appointed as moderators other commercial headshot photographers so our general perspective will be that of ... you guessed it ... commercial headshot photographers. Secondly, this community has been around for a while so anyone wondering if their images are headshots or portraits should take a few minutes and read through the posts. You should be able to figure it out very quickly because the critique is very consistent even though there are several moderators. Last, if you want to post only to show off and can't tolerate critique this may not be the place for you. We welcome everyone but the owner and moderators all view critique as helpful so tantrums, hissyfits and insults will not be tolerated. Post away and let's all learn and grow together!

Hi Everyone ... I've removed the category "sharing only - no critique" after chatting over this community with its owner, +Peter Hurley. We feel that the strength of this community is the ability to share and be critiqued, to have your work seen through different eyes and to use other perspectives to continue growing.. To stop learning is to stop growing so let's keep on learning together!

On our recent cruise we visited Maho Beach aka Airport Beach in St. Maarten. Check out the blog for a few pictures including the KLM 747 we caught!
Anyone who has travelled in the Caribbean knows about Maho Beach, or as it is also known, Airport Beach. It's on the Dutch side and there you'll find a narrow strip of beach where hundreds of peopl...

This is the subject of much discussion in my circle of friends. We all seem to have parents reaching 'this age.'

How old is too old to drive? Talk about a hot button issue! http://ow.ly/ObLRa
As a boomer, discussion of the driving ability of senior citizens amongst my friends goes something like this: “My mother shouldn't be driving anymore but she keeps passing these incredibly easy tests and getting relicensed,” says the first person. “Besides, she can always suck it up for an hour ...

I don't think you can put an age on it. That would not be fair. There are many seniors well into the 80's that drive much better and safer than some in their 30's. The determination of when someone is cannot drive any longer should be based on a test with many parameters scored ( vision, responsiveness, hearing, understanding of traffic laws, and most important the ability to drive a car safely)

Just a quick note to everyone: there is starting to be a fair amount of spam on this community. I delete it as soon as I can but be aware that ads for photography services, links to unsavoury sites and that sort of thing will be reported and banned. Also not really fond of self-promoting video links - I feel that this site is more about C&C on images that members post so lets keep it all here within the community, folks, and thank you for your patience if it takes me a bit to remove unacceptable posts.

For all those photographers who don't like critique about their subject's eyes not making solid contact with the camera, I came across this article in today's news. It seems that cereal box designers are trying to move character eyes such that they make better eye contact with children to encourage more sales. Eye contact is everything, folks!

Eddington's is my 'go to' place for everything from lunch with the girls to celebrations or quiet, small dinners. The patio is wonderful in the summer months (sometimes just pop over after dinner for a dessert and specialty coffee with friends) and the indoor space is lovely all year 'round. Quite an historic building if you take the time to look around. The menu is varied and I can honestly say I've never had anything close to a poor experience. Thursday Pizza Nights are big fun ... love their potato pizza! All around wonderful - Eddington's never disappoints!
