I like to think of them as guidelines, not rules. What do you think?
The mythical re-creation of Lee Child's character, Jack Reacher. Talk about writing, and everybody has a sure-fire formula. Most everyone has a set of rules. They are sacred. They are gospel. They are, if you believe Lee Child, a... Read more

Terry Odell reminds us of the importance of getting to the "heart" of your characters.
To me, a book is ALL about the characters. Strong characters can shore up a weak plot, but weak characters won't help even the strongest story. Characters should be like artichokes. You don't get to the heart until you do som...

Introduction

Hello, so glad you stopped by for a visit. I have been writing all my life and plan to die at my computer, hopefully after finishing a book, not in the middle of one.

When I am not busy writing, or blogging, which is really writing if you think about it, I love to be on stage. I have been the theatre director at our local art center for a number of years and always enjoyed directing plays, never thinking I would ever be in one. A friend dared me to try it, and I was bitten by the acting bug in a big way.

I've written in a number of genres, but am focusing more on mysteries of late. I have the Seasons Series that features two women homicide detectives in Dallas. Think "Lethal Weapon" with female leads. Open Season is the first book in the series, followed by Stalking Season. While I focus on longer works, I do write a short story when my muse gifts me with one. To see a full listing of all my titles, visit my author page at Amazon.

It has been my honor to win a few awards for my work, including the Page Edwards Short Fiction Award for a short story that was inspired by the fleeting glimpse of an old man sitting under a tree as I drove by on a country highway. It is always such a joy to be gifted with a story that way.

I live in the beautiful Piney Woods of East Texas with one horse, one goat, one sheep, one dog and four cats. The cats rule.

Bragging rights
I am now living my childhood dream of being a farmer. Or trying to be. (smile)
