Beet Soup with Goat Cheese
Wow! This soup is fantastic! I finished making it, turned my back, and before I knew it, half the stockpot was emptied by my husband and daughter. My apologies to beet lovers, but who knew beets could be so good? I don't know if it was the chicken stock (I ...

Got this recipe from our friends the Passarello's who dry a couple hundred pounds of apricots every summer. So, yeah, they know a thing or two about apricots!

Soy Sauce Red Radishes
These radishes are deliciously refreshing - cold, crunchy, salty and sweet. The recipe is from the classic cookbook, The Modern Art of Chinese Cooking by Barbara Tropp. Barbara Tropp was on track to become a doctorate of Chinese poetry at Princeton, but got...

Bean Kale Soup with Poached Eggs
The soup has its origins in Tuscan peasant food, but with the addition of poached eggs it gets spiffed up and might even be deemed fit for the merchant class. It's great either way! Bean Kale Soup with Poached Eggs adapted from Essentials of Classic Italian...

Got Apricots?
Three generations of Passarellos! I thought buying 25 pounds of apricots every spring from Wolfe Ranch  was a lot. Then I realized I was in the minor leagues. Turns out our friends, the Passarellos, pick up 200 pounds! It's hard enough for me to process 25 ...

This was good. I mean REALLY good. Yes, it looks beautiful with the contrasting orange and green, but it TASTES even better. And to think, I almost didn't make this. I was on the verge of roasting a whole chicken when I remembered I'd bookmarked a recipe fr...

Shaved Fennel and Celery Salad
Eating this salad felt like all the freshness, hope and possibilities of a first Spring day. All the flavors played well together and for someone like me, who doesn't particularly like licorice or anise flavors, I didn't notice any aggressive overtones from...

Introduction
I have way too many hobbies and way too little time. Between working as a teacher's aide and raising 3 kids and a hubby and a cat, I try to get in some traveling, photography, cooking, gardening, sewing, knitting, piano plunking and learning Mandarin.
