Finally got around to finalize this. I took a deeper look into how well today's computer user interfaces support and focus on things that people use them for.

Turns out none of them really do. They all clearly have their points of interests, but just in utterly irrelevant places.

New post for friday reading.

Over the past 20 years, we've introduced different kind of computers in our lives. Strangely they all appear very different on the outside, even if they're almost identical on the inside. Here's the part 1.

If you didn't know, Spotify encourages its employees to experiment on new things during work hours. Bob experimented on mixing a bit of Sailfish OS silica with Spotify magic, resulting in probably most ergonomic Spotify experience to date. Go read all about it.

Thanks Bob, thanks Spotify, thanks Simo

Most people don't mind that their smartphone display is dead until they press home or power key to bring it back to life.

But if they've used Nokia N9 &N8 or Lumias with Glance screen in the past, going back to passive behavior feels horrible. Read my experience, followed by some thoughts how to improve/fix existing solutions.

I failed keeping it short, but has images to balance things out.

Transparent software development is challenging, because everyone can see and evaluate your decisions. If your software does something that you don't want anyone to find out, it's easier to bar all doors and windows, and do everything in secrecy.

The question that remains, is whether your're ashamed of the overall code quality, or know that it contains things imcompatible with daylight.
