Bill Russell once made a statement I’ve never forgotten. “Winners — pros — never give up in a slump. They just keep on and ride it out.” They ride out a slump. They just keep on going. What do you do when you feel like giving up? Life has its ups and downs. Everybody has their off days. Maybe you’ve had an off week, month, or maybe even an off year. You feel like giving up and you ask yourself if continuing is really worth it.

Jesus told his disciples to get in the boat and go to the other side. In doing so, He was not only giving them instruction and direction, but was also providing them with everything they needed to arrive at the intended destination. If we will hear and obey His voice, and follow His instruction, we too will alway be where we are needed and ultimately arrive at our final destination.

Here are four questions we need to be able to answer correctly: (1) Do people feel better about themselves after spending time with you? (2) Are your expectations so high that you focus on people’s shortcomings instead of their strengths? (3)

I find it interesting that AA Step 9 gets it right, at least from my perspective. Here is where the rubber meets the road. Our spiritual life is not a theory. We have to live it. While living and walking out our faith, our faltering and failings at times hinders and hurts our relationships with others. Broken promises and broken hearts are often the end results.
