Martin’s dreadnought guitar is probably the most iconic acoustic guitar design of the 20th Century. From Elvis to Johnny Cash, from the Louvin Brothers to Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, from Johnny Marr to Kurt Cobain, the roll call of musicians who have played these fine instruments is unparalleled. It’s also the most copied acoustic guitar design, with dreadnought guitars offered by almost every manufacturer in the acoustic guitar market. Martin themselves offer dozens of variants on the design including replicas of the classic 1930s D18 and D28.

So which to Martin to choose? Read this blog post by our guitar department manager James, as he delves into their range of Dreadnoughts and picks ten that should be on any comparision list if you’re looking at these fine instruments.

Many people have admired this incredible oil painting of our shop window by acclaimed local artist Stephen M Campbell. So we thought we'd make it available to buy. Working with our friends at Framing Manchester, these gallery quality giclee prints have all the vibrancy of the original painting. They are available as an A4 & A3 mounted print, and A4, A3 and A2 on stretched canvas, with prices starting at £25.50. A great gift perhaps for a lover of music and fan of Forsyth, or anyone who loves fantastic art. #art #music

What a wonderful weekend participating in Music for All's Learn to Play Day. We've hosted over 170 free beginner lessons and workshops on a whole variety of instruments, from Balalaika to Harp. The students were many and varied, from 3 years old to 82! Hopefully we've given them a great start to their new musical journey. Thanks to everyone who participated and in particular to all the teachers who gave their time so generously.

Learn to Play Day is a nationwide event encouraging people all around the UK to take up an instrument, or to return to an instrument they used to play.

It has been organised annually since 2012 by the charity Music for All and is supported by the likes of Dame Evelyn Glennie, Rick Wakeman, Gareth Malone, Gordon Giltrap and patron Jools Holland.

Here at Forsyth Music Shop we are looking forward to another fun weekend open to everyone, adult or child, who would like a free taster lesson on a musical instrument.

We will be happy to lend you an instrument for the session if you do not yet have your own, and everyone attending a lesson will receive a goody bag, including a voucher for special on-the-day in-store-only discounts!
