INTIMACY IN PRAYER

Friday, Fr. Charles sent out this email to all of our community, congratulating Br. Ephrem Arcement on his recent publication. Br. Ephrem explains: "The e-version is available now. The paperback will be available on 1 August. Our gift shop has them already."

This is the Amazon(!) link:

Dear faculty, staff, seminarians, and friends:

On behalf of Father Gregory Boquet, O.S.B., President-Rector of the Seminary College, it is my great pleasure to congratulate Brother Ephrem Arcement, O.S.B., on the publication of Intimacy in Prayer: Wisdom from Bernard of Clairvaux, a volume he edited and for which wrote the introductory materials.

Though we are not a research university, faculty research, including publishing, is integral to ongoing faculty development in the Seminary College.  A published work by a faculty member is also an external recognition of an individual faculty member's expertise and scholarship by his or her peers.  Brother Ephrem, though a junior professor, now joins the ranks of many of our senior professors who have published works.

Wishing all of you a restful few weeks of what remains of the summer break, I am

Sincerely yours in Christ,
Father Charles.

Rev. Charles J. Benoit, O.S.B., J.C.L.
Academic Dean

PBA NEEDS "DOUGH" FOR A SAFER BAKERY FLOOR!

For 23 years, the monks and their volunteers have been baking bread and donating it to the poor twice a week. If you do the math, since the beginning of the program, over 43 million slices of home-made bread have been produced and distributed to the plates of the needy - that’s an amazing tally.
For all these years, the baking has been done in a modest, non air-conditioned small space with very little complaining. It has come to our attention that the bakery needs to have its floor re-surfaced with a slip resistant product to increase safety and avoid injury to our monks and their helpers.

Please help us to raise the necessary funds for this project so that the monks can keep on baking, safely, and keep feeding those with the greatest need.

KISS ME, KATE

A few days ago, Colby McCurdy, (photo, center, in the red shirt), our Professor of Music and Director of Schola, sent us this invitation. Wow, the lead role - break a leg, Colby!

Dear Students and Colleagues,

I hope the Summer is going well for everyone. Many of you have requested information regarding the production that I'm involved in this summer, and I'd like to invite everyone to come see the show!

This summer's project is Cole Porter's "Kiss Me, Kate". The show is a classic, and was the first ever to win a Tony Award for Best Musical. I will be in the leading role for this production, supported by a very talented cast, crew, and orchestra. If you are a fan of 1940s jazz and/or the works of William Shakespeare, you should find this show quite enjoyable!

When: August 1,2,3 @ 7 p.m.; August 4 @ 2 p.m.
Where: Summer Lyric Theatre at Tulane University- New Orleans (Dixon Hall, near McAlister Auditorium)
How: Tickets are available at the Box Office or by phone. Box Office hours are Noon-5 p.m. Mon-Fri. The number for the Box Office is (504) 865-5269.

Summer Lyric Theatre is a professional theater company housed at Tulane University. This is my third consecutive season with the group, and I can honestly say that Summer Lyric offers some of the highest production value in the city of New Orleans. I hope to see you there!

Sincerely,

Colby McCurdy, M.Mus.
Director/Professor of Music
