The best thing I've seen on the upgraded MOLE test server so far is being able to change all of the dates from one place - it'll save hours (and years of wear on the old clickfinger)

Following on from discussing webinars (big web-conferences... you know the ones, and if you don't, do google it) at the LT Forum on Friday, it sounded like many of us are interested in running them. However we do not currently have any platform available institution-wide that can cover many of the things we would like to use webinars for.

David Read has been using Adobe Connect (http://www.adobe.com/uk/products/adobeconnect.edu.html) and has found it works really well for the needs of the ELTC - he gave a live demo of it working and it left everyone that attended impressed.

So to drum up some support for looking into Adobe Connect, could you fill out this form asking what you'd like to use webinars for? If you know of anyone else who would be interested do please pass it on.

Webinar platforms for UoSDuring the recent Learning Technologies Forum we discussed the options we had available for webinars. We have Google Hangouts for 1-15 participants, internal to University of Sheffield with no leader and no need to record (small group collaboration). But there are many other scenarios that fall outside of those criteria in which we would like to be able to use a similar webinar tool. David Read has been using Adobe Connect and has found it works...

CICS are looking to pilot one of 3 options for web conferencing with Connect being one of them - I think hopefully in line with Google Apps - +Chris Daniels  is your man

My top pet MOLE peeve is the course menu background turning black for no damn reason at all. Easy to fix but why does it happen?

Last chance shout out for tomorrows' webinar on running online open days or webinars in general.

Sign up at the webpage below to join us this Friday at 10am in a webinar where we will share our experiences of running online open days. We will look at making webinars engaging; the technical considerations; the practical advice and preparation required; some good practice and finally how we've been marketing these open days.

More info and the sign up sheet can be found at:

I know this isn't the fault of the MOLE team but our beloved VLE is painfully slow. For anyone else feeling the pain before the November upgrade here's me pasting in a tiny tweak to a test question with 10 hours of elevator music for company. It's ever so soothing. tl;dr is that it takes 3 minutes per question. It's a big test. There's 2 to fix. This is my afternoon.

Editing tests is slower than any other part of MOLE - I can't explain why though!
These periodic slow downs are still being investigated, however it's not an easy task I'm afraid. They don't last long, so 15-15 minutes later (based on what we've seen in the last couple of days) it will be running faster again. I realise that is absolutely no help if you are trying to do something at that very moment in time, particularly if you are editing a test.
It's very frustrating, and I can only apologise once again for these issues.

Here's a guide to taking assessments and getting feedback in MOLE for all of the new starters, thought it might be handy everyone experiencing the induction week madness and +Ken Grace's post. If you want to make a copy and amend it for your own purposes please feel free to do so, the link for that is https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1TfoT8Odj2naVTD0WQsC2bccFuwwsnDfCJh-H7vKWJ6o/edit?usp=sharing
