Cannes, France

Glamorous Cannes shines its brightest in May during the International Film Festival. Though considered as entertainment for the rich and famous, the festival is also an opportunity for many industry professionals to network as well as for the fans to see their favorite celebrities up close and in person on the famous steps of the Palais des Festivals. The Palais is located at the end of La Croisette, a 1.2 mile (2 km) long promenade stretching along the Côte-d'Azur shore. Lined with many expensive shops, restaurants and hotels, it's a popular place to hang out and practice Cannes' most popular past time of people watching.

Finding high-priced entertainment in Cannes won't be difficult, although there are many things to do on a budget. Walk up the Rue St.-Antoine to Le Suquet - the old quarter of Cannes. There is a clock tower and church overlooking the Bay of Cannes and the town itself. Check out the tower of the Musée de la Castre, an ancient fortress that houses ethnographic and archaeological exhibits.

At the bottom of Le Suquet is the Marché Forville, the city's outdoor produce market, which sells fresh vegetables and pasta daily except on the days when it becomes a flea market.
The French Riviera was a popular destination for many twentieth-century painters. About 7 miles from Cannes, the 12th-century Grimaldi Castle houses the Picasso Museum. The Museum de la Castre in Le Suquet and the Sea Museum on Sainte-Marguerite Island are Cannes' two largest museums.

Although during the Film Festival the entire city seems to be dedicated to the cinema, don't forget that Cannes has much more to offer. With plenty of sunshine and more than 380 restaurants, Cannes offers a vast menu of choices.

Venice, Italy

Spread out across 118 islands in the Venetian Lagoon, rests the city some call the most romantic place in the world. Being over 1500 years old, Venice is renowned for the beauty of its surroundings, architecture and art.

There are just two ways to get around Venice: on foot and by boat. The 177 canals serve as streets and the 416 bridges piece everything together. Dividing the city in half, the Grand Canal is a 2.4 mile long main waterway and a popular exploration route. Lined with over 170 buildings, the canal waters reflect the grandeur and beauty created by the Republic of Venice.

The San Marco district, the center of Venice, houses the most notable landmarks Piazza San Marco (St. Mark's Square) with its Cathedral of St. Mark, Palazzo Ducale (Doge's Palace) and Campanile di San Marco. At almost 99m (325ft), the Campanile is the city’s tallest building offering a bird’s eye view.

St Mark Square is also the heart of Venice’s mid-winter carnival celebrations. The annual world-famed festival fills the city with cloaked and masked figures creating a very special atmosphere.
Venice's is home to some great museums including the Galleria dell'Accademia, the Peggy Guggenheim, Ca'Rezzonico and the Museo Civico Correr. With so many great things to see and do, it’s no coincidence that the city in its entirety is listed as a World Heritage Site, along with its lagoon.

Tokyo, Japan

The capital of Japan has the largest metropolitan area in the world with a population over 35 million. A bustling metropolis that mixes ultramodern and traditional, Tokyo offers a lot to see and to do.

Spring is a quintessential time to visit Japan. Hanami, or flower viewing, is the annual Japanese custom of enjoying the blooming foliage. While hanami specifically refers to the blooming of cherry blossoms, many plan events around this period where nature flourishes with color and fragrances. Cherry blossoms, or "sakura," bloom from late March to early April.

Some of Tokyo's popular hanami viewing parks are also homes to beautiful temples and other historic architecture. The parks include Shinjuku Gyoen, Ueno Park (Kaneiji Temple), Chidorigafuchi (Imperial Palace), Sumida Park, Yoyogi Park (Meiji Jingu), Asukayama Park, Meguro River, Inokashira Park, Koishikawa Korakuen, Koishikawa Botanical Garde. Please note that some parks may have admission fees.

Shibuya is a famous shopping district in Tokyo with the equally famous intersection outside Shibuya Station. Experience the organized chaos when the traffic lights change and people from all directions cross the street.

Some call Tokyo "the sushi capital of the world", the truth is when it comes to food you can find any cuisine for any budget. And if the latter is more of a concern, check out Izakaya (居酒屋), which is often referred to a Japanese equivalent of an Irish pub or an American tavern or even a Spanish tapas bar. Just one stop away from Shibuya, Ebisu, a trendy neighborhood in Shibuya-ku, is full of these establishments.

Wherever your Tokyo adventure takes you, getting acquainted with local customs first could be a great way to improve your travel experience.

Dublin, Ireland

Visiting Dublin in March can be especially fun during the St. Patrick's Day celebrations. Although March 17th never goes unnoticed no matter what big city you are visiting in the world, thanks largely to the Irish diaspora and those who wish they were Irish. In Dublin the holiday takes the form of a festival which lasts several days. Make no mistake, Ireland's capital during non-festival times can be equally entertaining as the city's spirit never goes away.

Stretching over 40-acres in the heart of the capital, Trinity College, is a popular spot to kick off your city tour. Founded in 1592, the oldest university in the country is full of incredible history and treasures including the Book of Kells, an ancient Irish harp and others. Dublin's many other architectural gems include Dublin Castle, Christ Church and St. Patrick's Cathedral, which are some of the few buildings left from the medieval times.

Representing every major European School of painting, the National Gallery of Ireland's collection includes over 2,500 paintings and some 10,000 other works in different media. Close nearby are the National Museums of Archeology and Natural History, the National Library, The Oscar Wild House as well as Leinster House – the home of Ireland's Parliament.

Irish pubs are world famous. No visit to Dublin is complete without a trip to the Guinness Storehouse – the Home of Guinness beer. Also consider a tour of the famous Old Jameson Whiskey Distillery.

Bangkok, Thailand

According to the 2013 Global Destination Cities Index released by MasterCard, Bangkok was the top destination city by international visitor arrivals surpassing London. The Asian City of Angels is a fascinating mix of contrasts: old Buddhist temples and new buildings, modern colorful taxis and tuk-tuks, streets lined with food carts and fine restaurants overlooking the city from towering skyscrapers.
Bangkok’s many beautiful temples are conveniently located near the Grand Palace. The must-see list includes Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of Emerald Buddha), Wat Pho (Temple of the Reclining Buddha), Wat Arun, Wat Saket, Wat Traimit, Loha Prasat, Wat Mahatat, Wat Suthat, Wat Benjamabhopit (Wat Benja), Wat Prayoon. Don’t forget that proper attire may be required to enter.

Bangkok offers hours (if not days) of culinary exploration, provided you know where to go. Popular food destinations include Old Town, Sukhumvit (an upscale neighbourhood), Silom and Sathorn roads, Saphan Lueng (the Yellow Bridge neighbourhood) and Chinatown. Night culinary tours are also common. Bangkok's vibrant nightlife may actually top the itinerary for some tourists as the list of things to do after dark in Bangkok is extensive. One may want to start by checking out the list of Top 20 Rooftop Bars to kick off the evening.
Many easy day trips are available from the city. Wherever your adventure takes you in the Land Of Smiles don’t forget to smile first and it shall be returned.
