Up to half a million North Carolina utility customers are without power while flooded roadways and torrential rain continues to hamper utility restoration efforts and make travel hazardous. Tropical Rainstorm Florence is now located over the Appalachian Mountains, fed by tropical moisture surging north across North Carolina and Virginia. Heavy rainfall will continue. AccuWeather predicts up to 40 inches total for some areas of North Carolina. #HurricaneFlorence #PowerOutage

Many appliances and devices use a small amount of power even when turned off. These “Vampire Loads” can add up to significant amounts of power that increase annual utility bills and impact the amount of power available from a home standby generator. Managing these “always-on” loads can save you money on your utility bill and increase the amount of power available to your home during an outage.
