Both Chapter 7 and 13 Bankruptcy involves liquidating your assets so that creditors may be paid. However, in Utah, the law states that your house, car, food and clothes can’t be liquidated. Any of the necessities you need to live can’t be taken by the bankruptcy estate.

Chapter 7 Bankruptcy is also known as a “Straight Bankruptcy”. Simply put, this is when a trustee (a lawyer) is assigned to collect and liquidate your available assets to pay off your creditors. Once the process is completed, you’ll receive a discharge and that means you won’t be in debt anymore.
