A place for quiet contemplation - Cataraqui memorial, King Island, Tasmania

The end of a very long day. I found myself at the ocean again, watching the last rays as I had watched the first, some ten hours earlier.

The photo is not up to the quality I had hoped for - excuses include "tired", "cold", "dropped my lens and it may be faulty" (you can add "clutching at straws"). But I was overwhelmed with the notion that, looking out over the ocean, particularly when she is lively, a man must immediately acknowledge his frailty and the insignificance of his mere physical presence. It seems incomprehensible that a creature so feeble can have such devastating effect upon the planet, and this due to the sheer weight of our blind lust for short term gain.

As the great Jacques Cousteau once said, "Water and air, the two essential fluids on which all life depends, have become global garbage cans."
