Today's selection from my music archive is a short experimental piece I wrote and recorded to evoke the feelings I've had when hiking in lightening storms in the Yosemite back country. You'll note the drum beats (which represent thunder) are erratic rather than rhythmic, just as in nature - again, an experimental piece.

I've directed two feature length movies and a bunch of industrial / educational /tv commercial stuff. Never took the time to create a proper resume web page, but here's a link to a couple of these, plus some short experimental films, just for the fun of it.

Here's two more non-art shots of lady bug clumps. They're just cool.

Here's today's writing contribution to the archives.

This is my masterwork - my magnum opus. it is the first of a three trilogy series - 9 books - covering my search for identity, acceptance of identity, and moving beyond identity. It took almost thirty years to write and I just finished it less than a year ago. The three trilogies are Transition, Transformation, and Transcendence. This link goes to the first of these.

Another of my musical compositions: "Blue Gas"

http://storymind.com/melanie/music/blue-gas.mp3

This was written about fifteen years ago. I wanted to push the limits of what I could do on the guitar in terms of melody and finger work, rather than just chords. I've always been a fan of Mason Williams. That's why I called this little blue grass piece "Blue Gas" - named after Williams' "Classical Gas." I'm also a long-time fan of Leo Kotke's style (I saw him once live, when we were living in Oregon). I know I'm a good composer but a lousy musician who is just even in the same universe as these two guys. Still, that doesn't (and shouldn't) keep me from trying to see how far I can go. This is the result.

Now this isn't an art shot, but the subject is interesting. It is a clump of lady bugs in the spring along the shores of Jenkinson Lake in northern California.

We've encountered huge lady bug nests in many of the wild places we've lived. Sometimes we'd take a hike with a paper bag and bring some back for our garden.

In this case, we left them untouched as it was on park land and we had no garden when we lived there.

I have a few different shots of these and maybe one or two are art shots, but several are just fascinating in their own right - like this one.

So I'm really finding a lot of fulfillment in making an archive on this page by posting links to things I've created over the years. And I'm falling into a nice pattern: each day I seem to be posting 1 photograph, 1 audio recording (voice or music), 1 link to something I've written, and 1 link to a collection of some of my work I have already gathered elsewhere. This way, I don't choke the feed, and also a little bit of everything gets chipped away at every day. I figure if I keep this up every day, I should pretty much have everything up here in 3 to 4 years. Yeah - I've been rather prolific over the years, but every artist likes their own brand, so even though I'm only posting what I consider to be the best (you should see the rest of this stuff that I'm not posting - or maybe you shouldn't!) individual results may vary, meaning that you might find a lot of it sub par. Yet, I hope you find most of it worth the time it takes you to check it out. Okay - on to posting the first of my four links per day...
