This throw back Thursday I'm going to take it back to May of 1993 one week before I suffered a brain injury.
I've often wondered how my life would have turned out differently if I had listened to my parents this next weekend and didn't go out with friends but then I wipe away all that doubt. Because here I am 23 years later proud and standing STRONG and most of all grateful for this event because it helped me cultivate a respect for not only the brain, but overall health and also has blessed me with a powerful voice to help inspire never giving up after something as tragic and difficult as this is to a life... Never Give Up, Never Give In, Never Stop Trying, Never EVER Give Up!!!!!! #braininjurysuvivor #strong #shareyourstrong #loveyourself #braininjuryawareness #braininjuryadvisorycouncil #integrity #inspire #brainhealth #brain #healthylife #nevergiveup

As more becomes known about brain health and safety, we see that it's not just the traditional sports that come with a risk. Very sad to hear multiple time X-Games Gold Medalist Dave Mirra is found to have suffered from CTE.
http://www.cnn.com/2016/05/24/health/dave-mirra-cte-bmx-biker/index.html

Dave Mirra, a famed BMX biker, was found to have chronic traumatic encephalopathy, CTE, the same brain disease found in several former professional football players.

I made a visit to a nearby single mothers home last week. Her daughter was involved in an auto accident in December and suffered a sever traumatic brain injury. Her mom reached out to me for hope that her daughter Haylee would pull through this state... It brings more joy than I could ever explain to tell people especially this mom that I was once in this same situation in my life from this exact injury. And today I am a marathon runner... I say confidently to anyone going through a situation such as this to never give up hope and most of all stand strong in your faith! This was an extremely touching experience in every possible way for me... Team Share Your Strong ran 13.1 miles through historical South Georgia with The Chasing Jefferson Davis Marathon in Haylee's honor this weekend.

Reminiscing as this anniversary is slipping up on me in only 2 days... Its wonderful to read back through my writings and feelings. I refuse to allow that part of my life to be wasted... We are all given dark moments in our life to learn from, and share!

The signs and symptoms of a concussion can be subtle and may not be instantly apparent. Some symptoms of concussions may surface immediately while others are delayed in onset by hours or even days after the injury.
The advice Share Your Strong advocates to individuals worldwide is to always handle their brain with care. If a person experiences a hard hit, do what the professionals recommend... When in doubt, sit it out, and that no matter what anyone (even a coach) may say, take a stand for yourself!
Take my advice when I say it's much harder to live through severe brain issues the rest of your life than to sit out one game or practice.

A former Old Dominion wrestler was knocked out three times in practice over a six-week period, but despite exhibiting symptoms of concussions, coaches failed to refer him for medical treatment,

Introduction
Hello I am Stephanie M. Freeman and I have created this to let everyone walk with me through my journey I am taking to accomplish my dream of qualifying for the Boston Marathon.

Running is my passion.  When I was 14 years old I experienced a life changing event that nearly took my life.  I suffered a brain & lung injury from a car accident that left me in a coma for two months.  I pulled through this and woke to find i was bound to a  wheelchair and told I would be a handicapped child and never walk again.  For 2 months of my life I prayed for my miracle, and with strength and determination I proved all my doctors & nurses wrong... I walked out of that hospital on October 8, 1993.

When I run now I let this memory drive me harder than ever to be the best person and runner I can be! So therefore I know this goal of mine WILL happen for me and I will make most sure of it!
Bragging rights
Mother of Preston Range Freeman 7 years old, I have 4 marathons under my belt Jacksonville Bank Marathon 2006 time of 4:14, and The Warner Robins Aviation Marathon 2011 time of 4:01 & then The Jacksonville Bank Marathon 2012 with a time of 3:59
