Approval is granted for 18 social housing flats

Hillcrest Housing Association has been given the go-ahead to build the development on a gap site off Coupar Angus Road, in Dundee, to the south of St Ann Lane.

The proposed site is next to Lochee Health Centre and the site of the former Highgate Shopping Centre, which is now a car park.

Work on the site will begin by late summer and it is expected to be completed late next year.

David Zwirlein, director of development and new business at Hillcrest, said: "These properties will mark a significant contribution to the regeneration of the area.

"The development is still in its infancy and is subject to the com pletion of land acquisition from Dundee City Council and Scottish Government grants, however it is anticipated that work will start on the site this summer and we look forward to delivering these one and two-bedroom properties to people and families in need of social housing by late 2016."

The development will be made up of 14 two-bedroom flats and four one-bed room flats, while there will also be off-street parking for residents.

The project is the latest in a number being handled by Hillcrest as part of regeneration across the city.

The gap site off Coupar Angus Road, Dundee, which will soon be home to 18 new flats.

In Sinclair Street, yards from the latest proposed site, work is already under way on 32 new housing asso ciation flats.

And last October, the council revealed plans to put £3 million into a partnership scheme with Hillcrest as part of plans to build 70 homes on the former site of Alexander Street multis in Hilltown.

Meanwhile, late last year, Cullross Ltd and Hillcrest submitted proposals to build 21flats at Dens Road’s junction with Alexander Street.

At Hillcrest HA, we are always happy to hear good news from our tenants and we were delighted when Kate, one of our tenants in Perth, got in touch to tell us about her new home.

Here’s what Kate had to say:

My name is Kate. I am 31 years old and I have Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
I have recently moved into my first home in Perth.
Hillcrest has provided me with a lovely ground floor flat, which has been adapted for my specific needs.
The flat is spacious and easy to move around in in my wheelchair.
Everything is at a good height, making my life so much easier.
Having my own place has made such a difference to my quality of life.
I enjoy cooking and buying things for my new flat.
My flat is situated close to the city centre, which makes it easy for me to get out to socialise and attend activities.
The team at Hillcrest have been lovely, and helped me in so many ways.
I am so happy!
Thank you Hillcrest

The gang from Gowrie Care’s Student Support Service had a great time at the Autism Professional awards last week despite not taking home the award.

While they were disappointed not to win, the team was delighted to be the only service from Scotland to make the grade as finalists in the Autism Accreditation Excellence Award.

Everyone at Gowrie Care and the Hillcrest Group of Companies is proud of the Student Support Service for reaching the final and would like to congratulate Knowsley Disability Service for winning the award.
