Getting in and out of a chair can be hard for individuals with a disability, depending on age, strength and flexibility. Assistance techniques for transfers can vary. Some people require a lot of assistance and assistive devices, such as a gait belt or a mechanical lift. Others need less assistance, but having a properly trained care provider is essential.
To promote the health, safety and proper functioning of the body's many systems, care providers are trained to move and place clients in the correct posture position. The results of proper transfer and positioning into beds and chairs helps to eliminate pressure areas on the skin, reduce muscle weakening and stiffening, and promotes proper breathing, digestion and elimination.

Care providers referred by American In-Home Care are trained to help patients in and out of bed, chairs, cars, bathtubs and showers using safe transfer techniques.

American In-Home Care providers provide assistance with activities of daily living including eating and hydration.

In general, they will help clients to eat a well balanced diet that provides the energy needed for a healthy life. They also make certain that clients stay on prescribed diets to control
or prevent a variety of medical conditions like diabetes and heart disease. In addition to preparing meals, care providers are also trained to help clients feed themselves. At first this can be hard to accept, but our caring approach can turn mealtime into an enjoyable social experience.

How are care providers screened?

Our pool of care providers are comprised of a diverse group of well trained, experienced, licensed and insured care providers, all of whom speak English. All referred care providers are screened according to Florida state law and the Agency for Healthcare Administration. We comply with the August 2010 Florida State Law (Florida Statute (F.S.), Chapter 435 and s. 408.809) requiring care providers to submit to a Level 2 FBI screening.

Alzheimers and Dementia Care

As experts in senior care American In-Home Care referred care providers improve the quality of life for people with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia while also helping their loved ones understand how the disease affects the patient’s behavior.
Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias can cause a person to act in different and unpredictable ways. Some individuals with Alzheimer’s become anxious or aggressive while others repeat certain questions and gestures. Many misinterpret what they see or hear. These types of reactions can lead to misunderstanding, frustration and tension, particularly between the person with dementia and the caregiver. It is important to understand that the person is not acting that way on purpose.
