ARGH! "In a call for free markets and open platforms, ...Republicans want to enable and empower you. We want to be the iPhone party." If they really wanted to do that, they'd be the +Android party!

If the GOP ideology is in opposition to paternalism and in favor of self-determination, iPhone sure as heck isn't the right tech analogy.
(CNN) -- "Imagine your government as your iPhone." That was the message from Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tennessee, in the GOP's weekly address Saturday. In a call for free markets and open platforms, Alexander argued that ...

Notification for new #Google #Babel (unified communication) service. I'm excited for this to be live. Is this a #leak?

Yea... If you notice, the Chromium and AOSP icons are less polished. Google service icons have a new design flair.

Plus, rumors are that Babel will not incorporate Voice on launch. It'll focus on the chat apps: Messenger, Hangouts, Talk, Gmail Chat, etc. Then later incorporate Voice and third-party apps.

Holding the "experts" to account. I love it, as would the guys at Mark May Be Wrong (defunct, but awesome, blog that did the same for college football, but was ahead if its time - i.e., pre-crowdsourcing)

What, no lawsuit from the IOC for infringing on its copyrighted branded material?

Wow, just did my first scan with +Google Drive. It was terrible. Immediately scanned same doc, under exact same conditions, with +CamScanner, and it was perfect. (Nexus S 4G)

Sorry +Google Drive, I want to use you for scanning, but you're not ready yet. And to +CamScanner: I'm sorry I doubted you.

The pie charts below are from Tim Cook's presentation at #wwdc2013 . Aside from the inherent issues related to comparing iOS versions with Android versions (functionality offered, mission of the OS, etc.), I was surprised that Apple used pie charts to show the comparison.

From a #datavisualization  perspective, this would have been more effectively communicated using a 100% column chart with two columns.

I threw together a mock-up of what the chart should have looked like, while mimicking Apple's presentation theme. It's not as pretty as a final product would look like, but you can see that it is much easier to compare the relative shares across the two operating systems than one can do via pie charts.

(see +Phandroid's article for more on this Apples-to-robots comparison http://phandroid.com/2013/06/10/apple-vs-androi/)

Good article on coffee taking a similar path as craft brewing. Talks a lot about my favorite shop, +Waking Life Espresso.

And +Jared Rutledge is absolutely as genuine as he's portrayed in the article. He could be a snob about coffee, but he isn't.

3D Printing will change the world. Not as much as the internet (nothing has that level of influence, other than teleportation), but it will be the #2 disruptive technology. Here's an example of an early adopter and how this is sneaking into our world. http://www.wired.com/design/2012/09/synthesizer-lets-you-3-d-print-your-own-parts
