Good tastes, and reasonable prices too. Could be an alternative to fancier restaurants in the area to try some north African vibe.
Response from the owner - 4 months ago
Thanks for dining with us, Matteo! We try to bring our take on North African cuisine to the people of New York at a reasonable price, so it's great to hear that you had such a great experience. Hope you'll come back and see us again soon. -Your Team at Nomad

Contrary to the numerous reviews in the last nine months, we had a great experience at Nomad last week...2 adults, and two kids around 10 years old. We had a reservation (7pm) through Groupon. On reading that there was a "different menu" for groupon reservations versus walk-ins, I walked in an hour early and look at their menu and prices. When I returned at my reserved time, I informed them we had a groupon reservation. They gave us choice of seating (we chose outdoors) and the exact same menu that everyone else got. The service was truly outstanding. Maybe it's because they read negative reviews and turned things around, or some other circumstances were present for the other reviewers. We were seated instantly and ordered within 5-10 minutes of sitting down. Food service was prompt, from appetizers through dessert. The food all had great flavor, with good sized portions, and cooked properly. We shared three main dishes: the Chicken Tajine, Coucous Royal, and the chicken pastilla. One dessert we ordered was the cookie plate, because I saw what the desserts were in the back and had to have it. There was Lukum (a traditional middle eastern "gummy" type of treat, baklava, and two other traditional middle eastern cookies (don't know their names). YUMMY! We should have ordered two plates. :( I'm not sure why someone would go to a moroccan/north african restaurant and order a veggie burger, or steak frites. I asume those are only on the menu to appease finicky eaters stuck with a group of more adventurous types so that those reviews with a grain of salt. I would definitely recommend this place, and would definitely go back again.

We're so thrilled you and your family gave us a shot and loved it, Alan! We're passionate about bringing our take on North African cuisine to NYC, so it's wonderful that you tried such a wide spread and enjoyed it all. We'd love to see you back again anytime to try out a few more dishes! -Your Team at Nomad

Customer service: Note: We came here via a GroupOn certificate, which is a great way to sample new places. Unless, of course, you are not wanted there. Which, sadly, applies here. The link to the menu presented by GroupOn offered a few dishes my fiancée and I looked forward to trying, including the Duck Pastilla a L'Orange, Paella, and Lamb Tajine. Sadly, it was not to be. Rest of review here:

"I was prepared to dislike this place because it seemed just too ""au current."" The reality was different. It's delicious and inviting."

My fiancé and I wandered into Nomad before a show at Eastville Comedy Club. Got there around 5, seated immediately (on NYE no less), with hardly anyone else in sight. Servers were very attentive. We started with the sangria for happy hour - perfectly spiced and delicious. I had the lamb tagine and he had the seafood couscous - the quality of both of our meals was phenomenal. He said it may have been the best meal he'd had in NYC.

We like your fiance (husband, now, maybe?) already -- it was our pleasure to provide a phenomenal meal for both of you! We're glad we could make your NYE enjoyable, and get you fueled up and ready to laugh at Eastville. You're both welcome back anytime, and given that it's been a year since you rated us, we hope you'll be back soon! -Your Team at Nomad

Best North African in the city, period. Try the couscous, tajines, and merguez sandwich.
Response from the owner - 12 months ago
We're honored you think we're the best North African restaurant in the city, Robert -- thank you! We see it's been nearly a year since you reviewed us, so we hope that you'll be back again soon.

Offering simple middle eastern food, Nomad is a nice east village staple, but by no means a destination with the wealth of choices available on the same block. Good for a quick fix, but I wouldn't recommend it to others.
