Happy birthday Linux!

Hello everybody out there using Linux -

I'm doing a (free) operating system (just a hobby, even if it's big and professional) for 486+ AT clones and just about anything else out there under the sun. This has been brewing since april 1991, and is still not ready. I'd like any feedback on things people like/dislike in Linux 3.11-rc7.

I originally ported bash(1.08) and gcc(1.40), but others have taken over user space and things still seem to work. This implies that I'll get the final 3.11 release within a week, and I'd like to know what features most people would want. Any suggestions are welcome, but I won't promise I'll implement them :-)

I love using the search keyword in firefox, makes everything so much quicker! I don't know if other browsers have that feature if not they should seriously consider adding it

One of the best compliments I've gotten from a customer "Do you use Linux? You look like someone that would"

Did this once in the past on a C7 and it worked wonderfully, tried it again on a new C7 and Chrubuntu will only boot without GUI, any ideas on how to fix this either from Chrubuntu without gui or should I start over on the process by using Chrome OS, tried installing the Default latest like last time

Thanks
I'm excited to announce a major update to the ChrUbuntu script. This new version offers: A single script that works on ALL Chrome devices including the ARM-based Samsung Chromebook. A single script that can install any Ubunt...

A clever animated video to go with what possibly has been Richard Dawkins most iconic moment this year, so far. :)

I couldn't agree more, I am a bit hesitant about it for more artistic shots since it could change the photographer's desired image but then again google makes it really easy to turn off the feature so it won't mess with photos if you don't want it to

"Doctor Who" may be science fiction, but the show often features real-life scientific phenomena, including the Sun's eventual expansion and resulting death of the Earth in the episode "The End of the World."

In this episode, humans (well, the LAST human), along with multiple other intelligent species, are on board a space station, attending a gala set up specifically for bidding the Earth farewell.

The fact is that the Sun will expand in the future, causing the Earth to bake in its presence.

In 1.1 billion years from now, the Sun will be 10% brighter than it is today. This extra energy will cause a moist greenhouse effect in the beginning, similar to the runaway warming on Venus. But then the Earth’s atmosphere will dry out as the water vapor is lost to space, never to return.

In 3.5 billion years from now, the Sun will be 40% brighter than it is today. It will be so hot that the oceans will boil and that water vapor will be lost to space as well. The ice caps will permanently melt, and snow will be ancient history; life will be unable to survive anywhere on the surface of the Earth. The Earth will resemble dry hot Venus.

What will become of humanity?

As the great Carl Sagan said, we must become spacefaring in order for the species to survive.

Can we do it? Can we be like all of those life forms in the show, living elsewhere in the galaxy or Universe but able to make a trip back to the solar system to see the end of the Earth?

With a Penny4NASA, we may be able to create some of the things necessary to have even a glimpse of what the species will need to survive in the future.
