We get calls all of the time about possible car infestations.
Tips for Destroying Bed Bugs in the Car

With more travelers on the roads and staying in hotels during the holiday season, the chances of picking up bed bugs are much higher. These sneaky pests are excellent hitchhikers and it is now understood that these unwelcome pests silently make their way into different areas via such items as luggage and clothing. They then lodge themselves in the cracks and crevices (like in the car) to lay their eggs, eventually infesting the area.

Numerous treatment options exist to prevent bed bugs from spreading; however, many are complicated, expensive and often involve the use of harsh chemicals. An easy solution to prevent your car from being exposed to bed bugs on the go and after the trip: the power of steam!

A safe, simple and chemical free alternative to destroying bed bugs is accessible to consumers through the use of steam. Bed bugs are highly sensitive to heat and cannot survive when exposed to temperatures above 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Steam treatment is the recommended method for killing bed bugs, eliminating them in all stages without the use of toxic chemicals (water is the only ingredient!)

Tips for Killing Bed Bugs in the Car:
1. Remove clutter from the car, giving bed bugs fewer places to hide.
2. Put all exposed garments (clothes, plush toys, etc.) in plastic bags and place in the trunk. Take out any luggage as well.
3. Begin to steam clean all the surfaces of the car from top to bottom, including such areas as seats, seat belts, headrests, car seats, headliner and carpet floor.
5. Make sure to slowly go over every inch, leaving no surface of the car untouched.
6. Allow all areas to air dry. Use steamer also on luggage before returning to car.
