I'm so missing Tokyo right now.
Tanto delivers on that mythical promise – 100yen draft beer in Tokyo. Well technically it’s 108yen, but since the consumption tax rise most stores have gone back to their old habits of forgetting consumption tax exists until it comes to [...]

I just got back from Shibuya 3 weeks ago. Don't remember seeing anything for 100 Yen ;) But I saw clubs with an entrance fee of $100 that 21 year olds were lined up to pay.

MIT researchers have come up with a solar array which can produce much more energy per square foot than traditional flat panels and potentially more efficiently.

As a former Java developer I can really identify with this.

It's a decent platform to be sure, but you can't read the contents of a file into a string variable in a single line of code as you ought to be able to. And that's just the beginning...
There’s something wrong with Java developers. I’ve been working with Java now for over 10 years. I’ve also had the good fortune to work with a number of other languages as well - C#, C, C++, Python, Lua, Objective-C - which I... | Neil Sainsbury | Fumbling my way through algebraic topology

Good article, thanks for posting. I agree with Sainsbury about Java's verbosity and over-the-top formalism. Oo design can be very effective though, with the right training and mindset. In any case:

Java started out more freewheeling in 1995. Then enterprise IT-minded folks 'embraced and extended' the language to become a safer C++ for dummies...

Python seems to have all the advantages of Java, while being way more concise and practical. Android has support for Python, with the cross-platform +Kivy framework being a prime example; it supports iOS as well.

It was nice knowing you Florida, most of populated China.
National Geographic has a good interactive map showing what 216 feet of sea level rise will do to coastlines around the world.

I'm gonna call it now.  The next US president will be a Democrat.
WASHINGTON -- The Republican-led House of Representatives passed the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act on Thursday night by a vote of 253 to 170. What may appear to be a mundane spending bill includes a number of me...

Story

Making my own luck in this universe thingy. Creative free-thinker.
Introduction
I create software to scratch personal itches and then polish it for you to enjoy!

Somethings I believe in:
1. Simple design is sexy.
2. Craftsmanship is a lost art in desperate need of a revival.
3. The old fashioned way of doing business is best (Creators loyal to consumers who directly reward the creators in kind).

Armed with stockpiles of coffee and great feedback and trust earned from people like you, I intend on staying the course, righting the wrongs and getting a nice buzz all the while.

My name is Jay Fuerstenberg, I hope you like it here.
