Like traveling on someone else's dime? Weeeell...

A hero/mentor of mine, and a very smart person, Ramit Sethi, is giving away two roundtrip tickets to anywhere in the USA of A. He's a best-selling author and runs a killer, hugely-popular, outrageously-named blog, "I Will Teach You To Be Rich". (Also the name of his best-selling book, BTW. I highly recommend grabbing it from the library and reading it.)

Yes, he's using this to promote his brand and business, but what's wrong with that? Nothin'. When you signup to enter, he'll probably send you some emails with info about personal finance, freelancing, or myth-busting ways of approaching life, investing, retirement, and other such trivialities :-P You can unsubscribe any time and still be eligible for the drawing. Or who know, maybe you'll learn something, too!

The cool thing is, if you win, I also get two round-trip tickets. Maybe we all go somewheres together, eh?

BOOM!

I never cease to be amazed at how differently others see things than I do. I don't know why I'm always surprised when they're surprised at how _I _ see things...

It's like you come on to this planet with a crayon box. Now, you may get the 8-pack, you may get the 16-pack. But it's all in what you do with the crayons, the colors the at you're given. And don't worry about drawing with in the lines or coloring outside the lines. I say color outside the lines. You know what I mean? Color right off the page. Don't box me in. Very liberating! Now I just need to remember that it doesn't really take that much time to keep it that way, you know?

The key to confidence is entirely about doing things despite the fact you’re scared stiff.

This is so very true!

Yeah, a little. I've refined my offering more, so I'm getting more interest from potential clients. It's a learning process, and I'm buzzing along.

Hey there, entrepreneurs and business/marketing types - I'm hosting a G+ Hangout next weekend. The time is still TBD. I want to bring people together to help us make new connections, get new ideas, and maybe learn a thing or two.

There's no selling here, just a good ol' fashioned hangout +1 this or comment if you're interested.

Fidgeting and busy-work

I'm fidgeting right now because the important work I need to get done seems too difficult. Specifically, my next task is to figure out what my next task is.

This is a common sticking point, which is why I'm sharing my experience with it now - even though writing this is part of that fidgeting.

Here's what usually works for me, which is what I'll do now to get out of the rut - take a look, cuz it may work for you, too...

1) Get back to my purpose - take 5 minutes, max, and reaffirm what overall purpose I have and what my goals and projects are that will bring about that purpose.

2) Identify what two goals or projects will have the most impact (the ratio of results to effort).

3) What is the next step for each those?
   a) Not sure? Ask, "What would need to change about this situation for me to feel completely fulfilled?"
   b) Got it? Add that task to my 2- to 3- item to-do list for the day.

4) Start at the top of the to-do list and work my way down.

What do you do to get unstuck?

I promise to have something more substantial out soon but...

Today is my birthday!

I'm 30 and, while I don't feel old (because I'm not) or any of that kind of garbage, 30 is a landmark year for a lot of people in our culture.

Really, 30 is meaningless. No more significant than 29 or 31, but we have this love affair with round and even numbers that it takes on meaning if we let it.

Which I don't.

But...

Now is as good a time for a fresh start as any other. For me, certainly, but for you too, if you're looking for one.

Not because I'm 30, but because TODAY is as good a time as any other for a fresh start.

Would you take just 2 or 3 minutes to come to Jump! and read the rest of this message?

It's here: http://jumptheblog.com/a-birthday-a-secret-and-a-favor/

You can't say no, it's my birthday! :-)

Introduction
On Jump! I write and talk about how to live your passion and build your legacy.

I explore minimalism, taking risks and taking action, and personal growth at simplechallenges.com.

I'm highly optimistic, suitably naive, and excessively pragmatic.  I seek simplicity and peace in living, having a handful of really good friends, and finding opportunities for growth in the challenges of life.
